M8 BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupé

The BMW M8 is the high-performance version of the BMW 8 Series (G15) marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. Introduced in June 2019, the M8 was initially produced in the 2-door convertible (F91 model code) and 2-door coupe (F92 model code) body styles. A 4-door sedan (F93 model code, marketed as 'Gran Coupe') body style was added to the lineup in October 2019. The M8 is powered by the BMW S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine shared with the BMW M5 (F90). Official website: BMW M
As the difference in length between the F12/13 and F06 6 series cars amounted to some 114mm (in favor of the GC), we may expect the 8er GCs' length to be somewhere in the vicinity of 4970mm-5000mm. Perhaps a tad more as the M8 GC Concept measures 5078mm in length.

Arguably petty-but...

the flush fitting of the concepts' side glass provides a very smooth, very coherent aesthetic. An element sadly missing on the production car. Audi (A7 Sportback) and Mercedes-Benz (CLS & AMG GT X290) appear to have mastered flush sideglass fitting on their frameless sideglass sedoupes. Why not BMW ?

I know most of you do not like that green but I love it. It's got that retro touch to it and, in natural light, takes on so many nice shades ....

Like the green paint and yellow-tinted lights as it gives it a nice sinister quality. The gold trim, which I found initially to be an interesting choice, quickly became tacky.

But these are all flourishes that are for the concept, so I am none too concern.

When it comes to this, benchmark is the Panamera, I guess. The others try to follow its example but (imo) the execution is sometimes sub-optimal, ending-up even worse than conventional frames. I even saw some Panamera examples with imprecise window fit ... which is really eye-catching. Even though some prototypes suggest that BMW might try to tone down b pillar and the frame in the rear window, such kinda detail is not (yet?) what BMW is particularly good at. When it comes to interiors, they improve (see below one detail (illuminated ! knurled wheel) that I did not realize up until last week when I had to look really closely ... ). And there are some signs exteriors will follow (paintwork, for instance, has already improved massively).

Side profile looks like a mix between a Rapide and a Tesla. I’m sure the production version will have greater BMW vibes.

They only need to make it 60% of this and they’ll have a hit on their hands. They got the 8er coupe pretty close to the concept and the Z4 not so much. So you can never know with BMW. If they get it right they can own this segment with looks alone.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
