Hot! BMW AG: What's Next

Trending discussions, standout car designs, major automotive developments, industry shifts, reviews, and topics generating strong community interest.
Industry Rumours point to such a vehicle being an M only. Similar to the stand alone XM.
GTM anybody? M Next was considered to be simply called the M.
If I were in charge of BMW, I would create a sportier 4dr Coupe, which makes more sense now the 7er is a boat of 5.3m.

Then forget about the 8er Coupe and relaunch the Z line up taking advantage of the partnership with McLaren, which offers the possibility to move upmarket.

Incidentally, is that now a fait accompli. Or is Audi still in the running for McLaren's road car division ?
Well, that economic news site from Germany (excuse me, I can’t remember the name) said Audi was off, and that both McLaren and BMW had signed back on March 24th.

Ah yes...

On April 8th, Audi's denial of reports indicating that it had been agreed to first purchase the McLaren F1 team with the takeover of the roadcar unit pending was reported in Germany's Auto Motor und Sport publication.

Why would they want to go upmarket? That market is crowded with brands who don't make 99% lease cars.

Make something semi affordable I'd say. Nobody is waiting for a 400k BMW supercar

I mean upmarket vs current Z4. Besides, if your partner is McLaren, I believe the intent is clear…

Yeah if they'd partner with McLaren I agree. But I don't see any sense in that, nor will I invest any thought into that whatsoever until it is official (which it won't be)

Stay tuned!

Don't keep us hanging in suspense, good sir !

Here in the EU, the self-driving clientele doesn't need "staatstragend" (= "stately" as in i7) or EQS (S="sonderbar" or "strange").

The affluent, style-conscious, debonair customer will be lusting for the Taycan/eTron GT/ Polestar 5 sort of svelte and rakish larger 4 door GT.

BMW needs to grab a piece of this cake as well.

So...what's the scoop ??

EQS is a combination of i7 and taycan. Despite the criticism of his style, it's a smart move. I don't think someone who will be traveling in the back seat would prefer an electric car. This segment is mainly for individual use. Taycan is sporty, but it has a range and space problem. EQS will be the winner in my opinion.

I predict that this segment will become more fiercely contested in the relatively near future. We will be seeing the increasing presence of non-German competitors such as Lucid, Polestar...and who knows what China may bring to the table (and that quickly). Not to mention the German VAG "Landjet"/"K1" entries. The Taycan has been having it's day. The EQS may soon be having it's day. But IMHO, the days of sustainable market share supremacy witnessed during the exclusively ICE-era will be over. We'll be seeing many more shifts and changes.

Funniest statement I have read here in a good while.
