BMW and McLaren may jointly develop electric sports cars platform
https://uk.motor1.com/news/578862/bmw-mclaren-electric-platform-rumours/

As per my sources BMW are talking with several possible partners for the BMW iM sports car co-development. McLaren is just one of them. The others are Renault's Alpine and Geely's Lotus. But since Alpine & Lotus are already working on a such a platform, BMW may be late to the game there. So McLaren seems a perfect match but it all depends on the McLaren-Audi deal. Some @ BMW are also playing with an idea - if no collaboration deal with a partner is reached - that the in-house developed BMW iM platform could be used for an unprecedented Rolls-Royce sports car (branded as Wraith Mark III ???) to utilze the platform fully & make it more profitable.

Hm. I do not get such a cooperation with McL? McL will play in a whole different market segment ... so what are they developing together? Either it will be too costly for BMW target customers or too low performance for McL?

I think you underestimate what BMW has done, can do and will do.

BMW and RR recently got their own platforms though. RR going back to using a BMW platform seems very unlikely. And the other way around, RR's Aluminum space frame probably is too expensive for mass production on BMWs

Anyways, M Next is still highlighted on the official BMW site alongside the Vision Circular as concept cars. I hope both make it to production.

I thought the 7er would debut the new front end of the high end cars, but I guess that's already happened with the XM Concept.

I suspect the X7 LCI will debut at midnight tonight. Tuesday night is often when official releases happen from my perspective.

Why they havent said anything about the X7 LCI revealing tonight?

"They" don't always announce when products are launched, especially for LCIs. In fact, it's quite normal for LCIs to have an online release without an announcement.

This really reminds me of the W212 E-class facelift where the front end is clearly from a different design generation. It doesn't look bad but as I said earlier, isn't an improvement in my eyes.

EDIT: 1 minute in I take that last part back. It looks worse to me from the head on view. Seems the quarter view shows off the design better. Will be interesting to see this in person. Taking the interior changes interior changes into account I haven't been this nonplussed by a BMW LCI...ever. No deal breakers though so I think sales will continue to be strong.
