FWIW -

At least we won't have to hear the "But BMW is not competing with Tesla" excuse. Hopefully.

When elevated corporate representatives make statements like this, I really start to get "turned-off" by them and, eventually, their products. It's nothing more than glibish, hubristic public masturbation. These people should concentrate solely on their own products.

After 188 pages, 'm going to answer the question posed in the title of the thread...

I dread to think.

FWIW, I don't mind the bombast, if they can back it up with results.

Off topic, but contrast that with Herbert Diess' recent interview on 60 mins - straightforward and honest answers -

On VW's global electrification plans
Stahl:
Even the design. And they say old dogs don't learn new tricks.
Diess: That's exactly what we trying.
Stahl: Exactly.
Diess: Yeah. It is a big challenge. And historically there haven't been too many cases where the successful companies in the old world could demonstrate that they are still successful in the new world.
Stahl: And you have so many competitors in the electrification area.
Diess: Yeah. It's really the new competitors which are especially challenging for us, no, coming from software background, battery background, Apple being said to entering at some stage, no? Those are probably the competitors we have to take most seriously

On competition from Tesla
Diess:
Tesla is quite ahead currently, and they're growing fast, I have to admit. He is taking more risks than we can. He's now building a plant in Berlin. ... And I think it's very healthy for us, no, to have a new competitor...
Stahl: There was criticism from your workers that you're setting him up as the benchmark and talking about it, and they don't like it.
Diess: Yeah, actually, you're right. They don't like it.

Reflecting, in the first pages/part of this thread, I have the bitter memory of things announced and never materialized.

The advanced "Z" coupe/roadster Z1, Z2, or Z3? the Z5 and the Z7 some would be coupe and others roadster, which after being "almost" green light, gave way to the offensive "X" which as much as it hurts was the right decision, although a new M1 or a Z7 they would not have bankrupted the company, but rather given it new icons for the concorsos d'leganza (the ones they always carry must already require many mechanics).

They are the "grown egos" they have because they just released the new series 7..........

Welcome to the world of BMW.
But these things were never announced.

This year is crazy packed @SKY, lol

M Next and Vision Circular are both still highlighted by BMW. The Circular is coming as the i3 replacement city car, and I truly hope M Next comes too as a full and powerful relatively lightweight EV sports car; these simply do not exist yet, and BMW should be the first.

Well, a potential partnership with McLaren should speed up things.

No other German manufacturer has presented a production ready supercar EV. The closest thing will the the 718 EV by Porsche.

The new 7er is such a gargantuan hunk of a road-barge.

I'd love to see BMW present a considerably trimmer G16-succeeding dedicated electric 4 door GT. A 4 door GT that decisively trumps the G16 in the looks department, for that matter. Several of the "good" G70 design elements (yes-there are some indeed) could be carried over with a few modifications. BMW needs it's Taycan/eTron GT rival after all.

Industry Rumours point to such a vehicle being an M only. Similar to the stand alone XM.
GTM anybody? M Next was considered to be simply called the M.
