Despite those images doing their best to hide the 5s questionable proportions and odd details, it's an easy win for the E IMO. I'm old now. I prefer timeless beauty.

But I get the 5s appeal and can see why people would be drawn to its avant-garde approach. But the fact that the proportions are off is undeniable.

GCF was once the leading edge for all things new in the German automotive world. Now we're old and irrelevant. All the young ones are on insta. I guess that explains MBs plethora of 'visions' and engagement of the likes of Virgil Abloh and Will I am. As questionable as us old farts find it the marketing department has done a remarkable job of engaging a younger audience.

Please don't forget to hit like.
The only flaw about the Eclass design is they all markets won’t get the classic grille. IMO it makes or breaks the front end.

There is one part on the new BMW design language that I find totally "non premium", this is the lower rear plastic :
I’m with you. I don’t like it at all on G20 LCI M-Sport. Looks cheap.

While I don't cringe as much and find some aspect of the 5er to be interesting, I still cringe a bit.

The only part of the E that I think is gimmicky are the tristar rear light graphics.

Overall exterior and interior aesthetics for this round, the win in my book belongs to the E .

The E-class looks way more elegant and timeless in its design than the new 5-series.

The 5 series front looks like an anteater with its long nose and extended bumper.

The E-class looks alot more rounded and with a lower rear, while 5 is more chiseled and upright.

Is this guy even a car designer? Some of his commentary is absolute BS.

Two paraphrased examples:
- "BMW is very clever to use the one platform for both the ICE and EV....I like the 5-series, I'd just lower it maybe an inch." These two goals are mutually exclusive mate! There is thus clearly something wrong with the proportions if it's an inch too high and the proportions are not classic 5 series as you claim them to be.

- He take's issue with the wave on the E-class's rear bumper but has no concerns with the two black haemorrhoids featured on the 5.

Seriously dude.

Guy is actually pretty awful at what he tries to do.

I mean, BMW would have lowered it themselves it they would have been able packaging wise.
Where TF would they leave the batteries and stuff if they lowered it an inch? In the trunk?

These wannabe experts are so f'ing stupid......And I almost consider Frank Stephenson (or whatever his name was) among them lately. Shouting from the sidelines with no actual inside know-how is retarded.

In both cars I have chosen the cheapest models, the 520i (57,550 Euro) and E200 (61,995 Euro) with base trim. In case of BMW its standard and Mercedes Avangarde.

Just added brown gold/bronze metallic colour (1070 Euro BMW and no additional cost 0 Euro Mercedes) in both cars and 19-inch wheels (1520 Euro BMW and 1785 Euro Mercedes).

Interior chose white veganta faux leather in the BMW (750 Euro) and Artico macchiato beige faux leather (773.5Euro) in the Mercedes, combined with wood trim of fine line in the BMW (675 Euro) and open pore with aluminium lines in the Mercedes (773.5 Euro with extra 238 Euro for center console matching wood trim).

Both cars have standard seats, standard steering wheels and standard sound systems.

From what I have noticed, BMW is offering at this stage less choice of colours, wheels and interior trim choices than Mercedes for the standard models.

Final price BMW 61,565 Euro and Mercedes 66,283 Euro.

In my opinion the base E-class looks far nicer than the 5-series. It looks more elegant, luxurious, with nicer interior.

Jeez, base trim 5er looks so cheap. The door panels remind me to the F30 ones, where the part of the door in which leather was inserted was so small and economy class looking.

Tough times for those in the market for a mid size sedan. The remaining options suck.

The BMW desgn is tragic. That front end..

I happen to like those E rear lights. Knowing MB, they’ll change them at facelift time though, like usual.

The 5er is for those who have that desperate urge to be different, original, people who think they are in the know. So much, they are even willing to buy and drive this lost generation G60 5er. Sad, when you think of it.

It's the most dramatic definition I've read on the internet about a particular car, it sounds like the name of the second part of a blokbuster about it.

"The sad G60 5series"
The lost generation

The BMW proportions are tragic. The mercedes lights - both front and rear are comical. But at least you can fix the later in a face/ass lift. There is no fixing the bmw. Have to burn it and start over.
It's going to be interesting to see what BMW has in store for the Neue Klasse Concept in the next two weeks. If the new design language is not able to turn things around for the brand, I'm not sure what the future will have in store for BMW.
