Total fantasy land to put indestructible and BMW in the same sentence. No such thing. Google does not prove squat about durability and longevity. That has never been a BMW strong point. BMWs are known in the USA for their fragility after a certain amount of miles/time.

I encourage you to go to your closest MB dealer and sit inside whatever the model, and then do the same with the equivalent BMW.

I am going to make this short.
This has to be one of those times I wish BMW had followed Mercedes and pushed the evolution envelope with the new 5-series.
The G30 is a handsome sporty car that blends sport and prestige in a seamless fashion. The concave creases of the G30 add a sense of trend and flair, entertains the eyes, and says this is a real BMW to the car enthusiast. The design is properly supported by the beautifully flared C-Pillar and Hofmeister kink that adds some heritage to its modern details.
The G60 5er with its rather generic themes is a step back in comparison and is a snooze fest of a design IMO. It is fat-looking and boring compared to the G30, it is quite possibly the most boring 5er ever created IMO. The wedge shape with the overall height, and sharply dipping boot line makes things even worse with the battery pack. Add to this the thin C-pillar at the base and long front overhang that does nothing to support the design.
The G30 is superior in every aspect to the G60 and would have been a great proposition to build upon, even if it were in small details.

How many years of evolution? 14? 21? 28? There are many years, generations with long and boring life cycles, the F10 was nobel and beautiful until today, the G30 comes out almost the same as the F10, it was insolently evolutionary and therefore one of the most boooooring BMWs in history,
I can't believe it was say that the G60 is boring and the G30 is not, (seeing them together like this the G30 looks 15 years older), but everyone sees what what he sees and how he sees it and it is his right

Looks is always a "your mileage may vary" situation.
Boring or evolutionary doesn't automatically make something look good or bad.
Revolutionary and different doesn't automatically make something look good or bad.
In this instance, its fairly clear that the compromised proportions of the multiple propulsion types the G60 generation was designed for, is contentious.
BMW have also over-complicated their graphics, though this seems to be a trend amongst all manufacturers.
The F10 looks great to this day, because its simple. Simplicity usually means confidence in design.
Again though, its subjective.

Two or three days ago, all the automotive media, all of them, tested the G60 in extensive videos and reports, not a single one said anything about the proportions, I repeat not a single one, (if not, I request the link), the only controversy is swarming here by three or four people who have the right to not like it and see it that way, which cannot be generalized.
On the contrary, what is general is the enormous appreciation that those same media gave it, all the media highlighting without exception how good the car looks in person and how great it is as a car.

Who cares about what the media and some non-critical, non-journalistic YouTubers, vloggers and even the printed auto press thinks? I can’t take them serious anymore, with their uncritical attitude and lost faith in them many years ago.

The new one is just an incredibly ill-shaped car, just plain ugly. The 7-Series looks better, that is a serious problem.

These people don't speak for me or anyone else.
The proportions are compromised, its taller to be able to house the batteries.
People think its fine? Cool - I don't care.
My opinion, nor indeed anyone else's opinion is not invalid because some feckless motoring journalists haven't said a bad thing about the design.

And they never will. Remember XM? The most "outrageous" thing they said about it ( only the ones with big balls) was "debatable design"

That's fine, and it's mostly true, but then the same standard applies when they praising Mercedes and other brands... you have to believe in something, don't lose ALL faith
I agree, more and more it is like a circus that grows without control and whose tent falls down with the slightest wind.
On the contrary, it is very valid, if there were unanimity we would be seeing a reincarnation of the G30 and not something radical like the G60
Correct, what I expressed is that there is no "controversy" as such and much less should it be generalized, since no one notices it when they see it in person, including some members of the forum.
That's true, but I'm referring more than anything to those who are more credible to calling it something, there's also the fact that if 50 guys tested it and no one mentions that, it's for a reason, it shouldn't be so noticeable and that everyone without exception like it, it also says something.
There is also the fact that LaArtist like it IRL so we can close this thread and leave it there.

Absolutely, the same standard. It annoys me just as much, when a new Benz gets only praise, when I know better after a testdrive over several hundreds of kilometers.

This all depends on how good the designers are at this. The current S-Class, for example, is an evolutionary design but not too similar to the previous model. Porsche is great at evolution with the 911. It has evolved over more than 50 years and is a modern classic.
The thing is the Porsche 911 and Mercedes S-Class look like what their brands have established.
This new 5er has some cheap design schemes borrowed from other makes. It is a mess and it simply doesn't work IMO.

I was driving down the I-95 south of DC recently, and lo behold, what should show up in my right lane was the new 5er. Now I could not tell if it was an i5 or a non-i 5er as I was driving above proper highway speed, but the sides look muuuuuuch better in person and the rear lights look just as non-distinctive as it does in pics. I couldn't form much of an opinion regarding the front since all I saw of it was in my rearview mirror, but from all the chrome on the grille, it gave off a more upscale look. While it looked taller than previous 5er's, with its design, it does a better job hiding than it does in pics. The rear bumper still looks comically tall.
Still need to see it stationary and up-close to form a better opinion, so take this for what it's worth.
