5 Series (G30) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the 5 Series. Officially announced in October 2016, sales began in February 2017. Production years: November 2016-2023. Body styles: 4-door sedan/saloon (G30), 5-door wagon/estate (G31), and 4-door long-wheelbase saloon (G38).
I don't think it is a big deal if confirmed. BMW kills a car that is as expensive as the 7er to introduce a new one a above the 7er. Keeps the 6er Coupe and Cabrio and changes the turdish 5er GT to a more A7 looking 6er GT.

Sounds like a good deal.

Hmmm. That does sound realistic, but one of the main selling points to the 5GT was the price

I see the possibility of axing the 6er GC, it was probably too much for a 6er but it does look frekin great, but arguably, i think the existence of the GC reduces the appeal of the coupe (and cabrio), as there is always a variant that sits above them. Having said that I can't believe they are giving away the mid-size 4 door coupe segment to the CLS just like that.
What I fully don't get (or wouldn't get) is if they change the 5er GT to the 6er GT. The 5er GT is doing just fine in its segment, it's an economic way to get a lot of space and luxury without paying 7er prices. Now moving it to the 6er badge, 1) i think it's disgraceful for the original 6er and 2) i think by default it will lose that price factor.

Factually, the 6er GC sits just in between the coupe and cabrio price wise. And really not even in the middle; the coupe and gran coupe are almost priced equally, where the cabrio is 6-7k more expensive.
So I am not sure what you mean with 'sits above them'. And IMO, a coupe in this class is more exclusive than a car with 4 doors, image wise. More practical means less exclusive in my book.

For the rest, fully agreed (y)

Exactly, and it isn't detrimental for BMW as the gran coupe is based on the 6 to start.

Not really the case in South Africa, judging by a sample size of three (my dad, uncle's partner and a friend). Gran Coupe here sits above the cabrio and coupe in stature and resale value..

In the uk, the coupe and gran coupe are priced identically, whereas the cab sits at the top

The value of things is determined by the price the buyer is willing to pay, not the price the seller stipulates. So regardless of the pricing strategy by BMW, the consumer ultimately determines which product is best for their needs (on average).

these details are similar...

Wouldn't it make sense for the 5-Series GT to become 6-Series GT given that its wheelbase and interior are closer to the the F01 than the F10? To me it's always seemed a step above the 5-Series sedan.
