JOKE, don't dislike!

It was foreseeable. :)

If I were designing the next 5er it might look like something like this: disconnected thinner lights with strong kidney octagonal shape. Side surface would be clean, playing with the lower character line splitting the car in half as planned, except with more dramatic negative surface like with vfl. But I'm not a designer so its all for not. Lol Btw...very sloppy sketch but oh well

There are very interesting and good looking details. Especially head- and taillights which seize the VFL design. :)

Looks nice but very evolutionary. Maybe it will become more distinct as the wrapping comes off?

I think so, it still has completely fake bumpers in that shot. The front will have more of a sharknose without the cladding we see in the pictures.

It seems so:

In my time with the all-new 5er. I noticed there is a lot more design elements to it than there is the 7er. Evolutionary yes, but there are additional elements that highlight the expected carryover from the F10 series.

There are lines on the roof that flow down past the rear window and highlight the trunk area. The adjoined characterline flows under the rear lights and then along the surface it is more prominent and more three dimensional it actually splits the car in half but really broadens the lower half. This will certainly make the M5 have a very broad and powerful stance when they widen the body to accommodate the wider track.

It also has a melting like appearance when joined with the upper line that flows around the rear door and merges with the characterline but twists the surface from flat to angled similar to the E60 series.

The front of the car has more prominent features which the renders do not address. There is slightly more dimensions to the intakes so they sort of stand out from the front fascia. It is a slight evolution of the current F10 but also includes elements of the new 7er such as the fog lights and strips of chrome.

The good news is we are not that far from the initial pre-launch of the new car where they will partially introduce to the media before an official unveiling in Munich this Summer.

:)

@rs271

I read that earlier from Scott27 which I appreciate. I do however wonder if we will agree with his impressions given his "enthusiasm" for the brand.;)

Ah but you can see for yourself in the details of the prototype.

No offense intended.

I actually see a lot of the current car in this p-type, a more contemporary looking F10 exterior coupled with an interior that looks like the new 7 sounds very good to me.

How about driving dynamics? RFT's still part of the equation?

At the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September, BMW will unveil the new generation G30 5 Series. The midsize sedan has been publicly testing for the last twelve months and it’s now ready for primetime. New spy photos from Germany show a – still heavily camouflaged – prototype leaving a gas station.

As seen in the photos below, the G30 5 Series uses styling cues from the recently launched 7 Series, the middle class athlete stays true to the current BMW design language with an elongated bodystyle, sharp-rounded corners and the upright kidney grille which connects with the headlights. Just like the 7 Series, we expect the new G30 5 Series to offer optional laser headlights with selective beam.

The rear end will feature a sleeker look, more upright and with the same L-shaped LED taillights.

Compared to the new 7 Series, the G30 5er is shorter, with much shorter overhangs, giving it a tighter look. The hood also slopes lower and is more aggressive than the 7er’s. The predominant body line down the side of the car is an evolution of the current F10 5 Series.

The G30/G31 family will get most of the interior goodies that G11/G12 7 Series introduces: remote parking with the smart touchscreen keyfob, gesture control, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, ambient light and fragrance air system.

BMW will officially launch the 5 Series to global markets in Spring 2017.

Fact: this is going to be the best 5er ever. In every way.

Can't wait for final FEP where there's only some tape left. I want to see the lower front bumper badly. There is a lot of cladding over there, with extra layers over the real bumper.

Agreed. What a year- the 5-series and E-class debuts are very close together. No wonder Mercedes is taking their time rolling out all the variants; I'm sure they want to keep the E-class in people's minds even while the 5-series is getting its time in the spotlight.

The front bumper was seen some days ago. Quite similar to the one the FL F10 and F30 have.

This is going to be a stunner. The big question is whether the 550i returns, and if so, will it have a high output 3l straight 6 or V8? 7er interior will also hopefully be more suited to slightly more compact dimensions.
