5 Series (G30) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series. Body styles: (G30) (sedan), (G31) (wagon), (G38) (LWB sedan). Predecessor: 5 Series (F10). Successor: 5 Series (G60). Production: 2016-2023.
The current 5 is still a beautiful car better than any equivalent model from the rivals. The new 5 will be the segment winner I am hoping. The last time I liked an E over 5 was the beautiful W124 which I still prefer over any rival car new or old. I even like the Bangle 5 series a lot which many dislike, but to my eyes that is the only Bangle BMW car I would call beautiful and dynamic and prefer it over the current 5 by a small margin. The Bangle 5 series was......so BMWish.

However the new 5 is also heading for the one design in different packages strategy judging from the renders above. I hope that an exact replica of the new 7 wouldn’t be the case.

This week´s Autobild has a new render of the 5er Touring. I have only seen the cover but they have updated the headlights and the grille. I think the kidneys are not correct still, and not sure about the bumper.

I think the headlights are almost perfect. If someone could change a bit the kidneys, I think this would be it.

@SKY Those headlights are disgusting. Heaven forbid they turn out like this.
@SCOTT27 What are your thoughts on how they incorporated the side surfacing and shoulder lines? Also how accurate are the headlights, and particularly how they are integrated in license plate area?

Well, that has more to do with each one's opinion. My point is if you look at the latest spy pics, this render frontlights looks perfectly spot on. Which was not very difficult, they were clearly visible.

I understand and you are right. It is a matter of opinion. I'm hoping though, that somehow BMW is hiding something. Also, the light cluster should make it look smaller and this render doesn't really give off that effect imo.

And of course the hood is wrong, being influenced by the current generation. I'm sure this has something to do with it.

Hopefully everyone else sees the problem with the latest renders.
Namely the headlights that one is correctly angled higher than the other.
As is one kidney wider than the other. The headlight wrap around the fender does not match the latest photographs. And the exclusion of more surface work on the front facia which the render does not fully develop.

I will give credit for the development of the characterline it is more or less spot on that it does look as if the sheet metal is melting, with another line seeping through. Its a brilliant interpretation. And it is something new and continuous progress in order to make the car more pronounced especially at the wheel arches. This really broadens the car out and adds definition so a smaller wheel does not get lost. Compared to the flatter lines on the 2000 era BMWs where small wheels made the car very in proportionate.

It is much a design element to define the cars with a more dynamic slant.
Character lines and surface lines define areas of the car so it looks more three dimensional. Its surprising that there are cars out there that have elements just to break up the design, neither pronouncing any feature and leaving the wheel arches flat. It is rectified in the performance version because of the wider track but the standard car remains flat, but then maybe that's the intention.

@JPATT93 we all await with bated breath your render on the latest photographs.

Lights are pretty close, they're not hiding much at BMW. Definitely no secrets.
I don't think you have to be worried. The new 5er is in every way be a better version of the current 5er, with evolved looks......so do you like the current 5er? If you do, you WILL like the new one, including the frontlights. I am the prophet and I am telling you :D

Good to see it in the PC instead of in the phone. Comparing the render with the spy pics it is clear the correct frontlight is the left one, less angled. Not sure about the kidneys size, but the missing detail there is chrome part inse the headlights, that should be a bit more pointy.

I am curious about the front bumper thought. It is the only part of the front not revealed in the spy pics. But the one on this render looks good.

Not sure about the new shoulder line.

Along with the 5 Series Sedan and Touring, BMW will debut later the second-generation 5 Series Gran Turismo. The current model has been often criticized for its quirky design, but it was equally liked for its versatility and driving dynamics. We even took the 5 GT to the track a few years back and came back impressed with its athletic abilities.

But now BMW wants to give the buyers a better looking car to match all the other positive attributes. According to Car and Driver, the upcoming 5 Series GT has been described as far sleeker-looking car than the current model.

The 5 GT will have the same proportions as the first generation, but with design cues imported from current BMW models – the headlights flow into the kidney grille, the sporty character line sits across the side of the car, while the slopping roof line meets an appealing boot design.

Inside BMW will stay true to its classy, sporty and premium design, but with a new touch. We expected to see a redesigned dashboard with the free-standing LCD display and tons of premium features currently found in higher-end models – like the new 7 Series. We will see the new iDrive system with touchscreen and gesture-based functions and the over-the-air updates for the car.

By using carbon in the body structure, the curb weight should fall by up to 100 kilograms which will sharpen its driving characteristics and help with fuel savings as well.

BMW is expected to show its new 5 Series family this fall at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
