5 Series (G30/G31/G38) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30/G31/G38 is the seventh generation of the 5 Series. Officially announced in October 2016, sales began in February 2017. Production years: November 2016-2023. Body styles included: 4-door sedan/saloon (G30), 5-door wagon/estate (G31), and 4-door long-wheelbase saloon (G38).
Not that I was expecting this to be a beauty, but the worse move BMW could have made in terms of creating high expectations from customers and fans was releasing the FVL vehicle. When you release a concept like that, you are stating "this is where our design direction is going." What I can see from the G11 and G30 is that if it is heading that direction, it's at an extremely glacial pace.

The headlight and definitely rear light units seem to have gotten bigger. This is the opposite direction of where the design should be going, based on what Scott has suggested and what the concept suggest.

It also didn't help when there were comments made like "this is basically the all new 7."

I know I need to get over it. Just a little bitter. Lol

That is because you are relatively new here. I became a member when the F01 was reaching the FEP stage and back then the CS Concept was expected to influence the entire portfolio. What influence do you see of that concept on the F Series cars? Some influence maybe on the 6er, the Z4 interior and some of the cars rearlights graphics. And that was it.

Same case with the VFL probably. The M4 CSL has a similar graphics for the rearlights, the G11 has inherited the hockey stick and the steering wheel, and probably some models will have similarly shaped frontlights (although never as slim) and kidneys.

I never felt the VFL so not a big deal to me.

Also when I like the new 7 and what I can say at this time also the new 5 I'm absolute with you, JPATT93.
The concept(s) and some statements here generated a certain of hopes.

I'm a great fan of the VFL design and I'm hoping that we will see anytime in the future many of this design details, especially this slimmer head- and taillights and a kind of its interior.

Another concept will come in 4 years to set the way the new (let´s hope) more revolutionary generation of cars will look like.

My point exactly. BMW doesn't need another concept. Especially when they plan to introduce evolutionary design with minimum changes. If there will indeed be more revolutionary changes in the next generation (not getting my hopes up on that), why not ACTUALLY implement design themes from concepts you've already introduced?

Probably due to the same reasons CS cues were not implemente on the G11 given the fact that they were not that present on the F01. A concept is the most extreme interpretation of a design philosophy by a brand, and therefore the most subject to change and evolve. BMW´s design team will probably don´t have the same ideas in 3 years than back when the VFL was designed.

0-100 in 4.0 secs for the M550i!!

That's just 0,2 slower than a Panny Turbo with 100 PS less for the bimmer!!
