5 Series (G30) BMW 5 Series (G30/31/32) Spy Pics & Info Discussion

The BMW G30 is the seventh generation of the BMW 5 Series. Body styles: (G30) (sedan), (G31) (wagon), (G38) (LWB sedan). Predecessor: 5 Series (F10). Successor: 5 Series (G60). Production: 2016-2023.
Typical BMW stance, which is a great thing

Typical BMW proportions, which also a good thing.

I can see how this is more "dynamic" looking whereas the 7er has a more upright, regal look. Though I will miss the rear of the F10.

Buttons look like they have a matte metal look, but don't seem if they are made of real metal.

Oh so they aren't going to use carbon core on the new 5 series? Scott promised as much.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I think he said that the M5 will have more CF implemented to achieve further mass loss, but I can't remember if he said anything about mainstream 5er. I was hoping that BMW would utilize CF in more of their cars, and not just with panels, but also in their structural components.

This bit I found a little confusing....
Key to the changes to the traditionally strong-selling BMW model is a new body structure first unveiled on the 7 Series last year. Known under the working title CLAR, a play on the words 'cluster architecture', it incorporates more aluminium within its floorpan and bulkheads than the earlier 35up platform used by the outgoing F10 5 Series. It also uses a greater number of aluminium castings than the earlier structure.

I thought "35up" was the new platform and had only recently been renamed "CLAR."

The review states that it does indeed use a carbon core, just not as much carbon material as the 7er

Scott has been saying a lot of things, for example the current M5 was suppose to have some kind of KERS system, the current M3/M4 was suppose to have a greater number of carbon fiber parts than they have now.

Yes The F10 was developed with an F1 KERS type programme. BMW even admitted that they tested such a feature in the F10. You can find it in an earlier interview.
The current M4 and M3 are pretty much radical in regards to CFRP content. When you consider such apparel on the C63 AMG you are talking about an extra 10,000 euro because they have to use suppliers.
But then look at the M4 GTS. The compete top section of the car hood, roof, trunk and spoiler is CFRP.

I would wait until the official press release until we discuss material usage in the chassis

The next generation of the bmw 5er with the bmw connected feature remote 3D view: Coming Soon:cry:(y)
Surely a nice gimmick, but a gimmick nevertheless, somehow don't see it trickling down to future models of other OEM's....
