4 Series BMW 4-Series Coupe Concept

The BMW 4 Series is a range of compact executive cars manufactured by BMW since 2013. The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the 3 Series into a separate series.
You see it less premium because of the lack of LEDs? Is there anything else? cos LEDs alone sounds frivolous to me.

Im talking about whole package. What makes 4 series more premium to F30 than E92 was to E90 ? Price and model badge? Exterior: E92 differs more to E90 than F32 to F30 (for example, front is much more similar between F32 and F30 than between E92 and E90). Next, technology: F32 and F30 will have same platform, engines and interior - that was also in case with E92 and E90. But E92 had a few things E90 didn't have - LED red strips in taillights and daytime running Angel eyes. Looks like this time F32 won't have better lighting than F30. In night you could easily differ E92 and E90 on long distance due to different lighting technology. Will this be possible with F32 and F30? In dark even outgoing E92 LCI will look newer. So why talk about how 4 series will be positioned higher and will be more premium?

What makes a LCI more enticing 4 years in than the non LCI model 3.5 years in? Details like LED, a small nip and tuck design and potentially better materials in some interior places. If it wasn't going to be a significant contributor to the car's attractiveness at LCI time, why have it at all then? It's a very easy, I'd say even lazy, bullet point driven change by feature marketing. The point some of us are making that we're fast approaching a time this won't fly anymore and that they need to find other "detailing" to make LCI models attractive.

Ha ha!! Well done.

And you make a sweeping statement that it's all about "costs". I mean for God's sake, of course it's about costs to some extent otherwise the 3 Series will come with leather, sat nav, HUD as standard. You're stating the bleeding obvious when you talk about that. The question is why the LED lights SPECIFICALLY are chosen to be omitted in order to save costs, and that's because BMW obviously see the attraction in holding them back for the facelifts. AS they have done with the E46 and the E90.

You talk about providing a "logical and rational explanation", in which case I have done the same for you and I have ten years of history to prove it.

Read my post. I did not mention that it's "all about costs". Costs plays a major consideration in the matter. And i have provided a logical, rational insight into the decision-making process within BMW.

Your argument from the onset was flawed becasue you state that "cost has nothing to do with it". You seem to flip-flop here because in your above post, you mention that "it's about cost to some extent".

Is it possible for them to include it and simply charge the additional production+RD cost ? After all this is a BMW, the people that will buy the car wouldn't mind that much paying for an extra 500-1k euros.

Cheaper cars will "generally" have smaller profit margins.

Er, what's your point?

By installing LEDs into these cars, the manufacturer is in-effect further reducing its margins.

Compared to not making millions of units. Good grief. YOU mentioned "millions of 3 Series and its variants" as if the fact that there are MILLIONS of them makes it even more unlikely they can offer LED lights as standard, when the more you units you produce reduces the cost per vehicle of providing LED lights. This is pretty basic economics.

You are guessing as to the reasons why LED lights are not standard on the 3 Series, just like me.

Your understanding of economics is very weak.

LED on their own, if purchased in bulk will yield cost savings.

But compared to what?

Bulbs on their own, if purchased in bulk will also yield cost savings.

Since bulbs are cheaper than LEDs, millions of bulbs will still be cheaper the millions of LEDs.

As to me guessing? well you say that as if it's fact. You're just stating your opinion.

Stating your opinion does not make it fact.

^let me ask you 2 this then.. how many people do you think order a car today without LED..no matter if they have to pay for it or not..

I think the majority now goes for LED, so if BMW still can get some money of those people i say sure go ahead from a business point of view..
From a customer view its a bit stingy in 2013..

It all depends on what glasses you look through

The majority of people around the world buys cars without LED headlights or even LED taillights.
The best selling cars in the world count mostly on their brand's name, customers loyalty, price tag, core values and in most cases heritage. The best selling premium brand in the world sells cars without LED where the competition offers them as a standard... and still manages to sell more cars. I would like to have LED taillights on my 4er but BMW's decision to not go with them will do only good for the brand and it's profits... then again people buy mostly non LED BMWs and not LED Audis or LED Mercs... maybe God knows why... or maybe BMW knows why. I'm being objective here by calling the black - black.

Best regards.
Ah, nice glasses

Admin, can we have an "Ignore posts with LED" option? kthxbai.

Oh, and maybe "Ignore lines" too while you are at it ;).

I am BEGGING a moderator to remove the remnants of the racist comment that I am still shocked to see on page 13(see quoted post in #252). We are very fortunate to have any connection to such a great up and coming designer such as him, so to see such idiotic comments from "he who should be unnamed" is painfully disturbing. Thanks.

karim habib is a graduate from the art center college of design here in california. its crazy how many successful students have gone from this college.

It's my fault - I missed that quote - and I apologise.

I have sorted it out.

Do you actually have any numbers of LED vs Halogen from any of the big 3 germans?
Or are you just guessing like me?

^Well i was asking for numbers, as i can only say what i see but i live on a little corner of the world.
So the numbers would be beneficial..or else we are just sitting here guessing and discussing for no good reason.
