2 Series BMW 2er Gran Coupe Speculation

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.

Why an imaginary rendering of a 2er GT, Scott? This thread is around the speculation for a 2er Gran Coupe - one that's hopefully based on the current RWD generation.

These GT models in practice are good cars for families due to their added benefit of practicality but as a styling piece both the 5 and 3 GT's look dreadful and thus probably are not selling in the numbers BMW hoped. I don't know if this 2 GT will be a good idea knowing they just launched the ugly 2 Active Tourer. A 2 GC will be nice as it will add much needed style to the already not so stylish 1 and 2 series range. If BMW can design it using 2 series coupe front end styling combined with a mini 4 GC read end it will look fantastic

Both the GT models have exceeded their initial 10% overall allocation of combined 3er and 5er sales respectively.
The 3er GT is very popular especially in Europe because it has opened the premium D segment for extra practicality in the face of the declining volume D segment.

Both models will be replaced and in terms of the 5er Gran Turismo it will use the Chinese market Extended wheelbase 5er which will allow for a more Coupe esque look , the glasshouse is smaller and the appearance is edgier in design , headlights and rear lights are more longer and thinner. The interior continues the first-class theme. I think many will be surprised with its evolution. As I said it does somewhat have a resemblance to that Autobild render at the front of the car.

You will see it shortly as a concept to showcase BMW and Toyota's jointly developed Fuel Cell technology in which a production model will eventually be available.

The lack of a four door 2er has not gone unnoticed and that is being investigated as we speak.
As is deliberation on the split of the 2er to offer Sportier with RWD and practical with FWD

The 4er Gran Coupe is also off to a great start in sales as is the BMW X4 which is finding customers. The Active Tourer just went on sale this past week so it will be interesting to see the first numbers.
But it is just like I said previously that in the premium segment they want a sportier appearance but still want practicality which is why you will still see cross-pollination between segments you would not normally consider for further product expansion.

The Gran Tourer was in a preview room behind the stage and potential customers will be invited to see the car whilst at Paris. Its premiere will be Geneva in March 2015.

A more clear look on the 2er Gran Turismo. Which is also a window to the next direction of the GT series. Which will begin with the all new 5er Gran Turismo.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the design refinement for the next generation model.

I actually like this render a lot they seemed to have mixed the current GT and GC design themes together and make it a sleek stylish machine. It seems a lot lower than the current 5 and 3 GT's.

What's with the 180° turned kidney. (We've seen this on the render of the next 6er as well). Is this true?

I have to disagree, I don't see many 5 GT's but where I live the 3 GT appears to be the most popular of the F30's, followed buy the Touring, in Msport trim they are a good looking car.

A look at the rear of the 2er GT and the more angular look that replaces the more rounded look of today's GT models.
The rear lights are similar to what will feature on the all new 5er and 5er GT. They are thinner and placed higher. Sculpture is more angular than before and more chiseled in the next generation of BMW models.

The next 5er GT is based on the China only 5er LWB so it will a few inches longer but with the added benefit to stretch the roof becoming more Coupe like at the rear. There is a world of difference between today's and upcoming GT models.

2 GT, or 2 GC, that is the question...

ps. some mod should change the title to "BMW 2er Gran something speculation, cause Sccot is on a mission to dump them all here either way...

Any word on the pending 2er GT or GC? With the 1er hatch not coming to the US I have to find a new way to get my small urban RWD hatch fix.

I would like something smaller than the 3er with 4d and rwd. Please let there be substance in this.

The front-wheel drive 1-Series Sedan has left a sour taste in the mouths of the BMW faithful but a new reporting is indicating the company could also offer a rear-wheel drive 2-Series Gran Coupe.

Details are limited but Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that BMW wants to expand the number of rear-wheel drive 2-Series variants and a 2-Series Gran Coupe is one possibility. While nothing is official the magazine says the model could arrive as early as mid-2018.

While little is known about the model, the Gran Coupe moniker suggests the car would be positioned as a sportier and more upscale model than the 1-Series Sedan.
