Big Sedan BATTLE! (BMW, Bentley, Benz...etc.)

Best Big Sedan.........????

I'm shocked to see so little Bentley votes. I really thought this would be at least number 2.

Question:Does the fact that it's a lower Bentley hurt it's status or is the design, which differs from the Bigger Bentleys hurt it?

Question: If the design of the Flying Spur looked more like a baby Arnage, would your ranking change? (Question for everyone)
Personally, I'm not crazy about either of these models. I have to be honest however and tell you I don't think the S class is any better looking than the Flying Spur, overall I find both cars to be very unexciting ...but I do admit that the S class is the best all-round vehicle for everyday use -- but it still looks like a Maybach crossed with a PT Cruiser.

This is the very conservative end of the market but the A8 ...especially the S8, does it for me as far as looks go.

Between Several posts I will start put a few photos of each contender listed in the poll. I will start with -

Lexus LS 460:

I'm surprised this "value" car doesn't have more votes. I thought the 8-speed would have gotten you all excited.

In the words of Lexus " We've one upped the Germans".

You shouldn't be surprised, this is GermanCarForum afterall ;) :D

Personally, as I pointed out earlier, I was struggling between the Flying Spur and the LS460. If you think about it, that shows how much appreciation I have for the LS460 (deciding between a Bentley and a Lexus)

Those beautiful photos have made me decide: LS460

Questions:

1. Is the Lexus Hybrid a real match for the German V12s?

2. Is the styling of the XJ more original then the Germans?

3. How do you feel about Bentley's styling direction compared with the Highend german models?

4. Which interior seems to be the most resourceful?

1. I'd think so, yes. But it's more conservative than anything else. The V12 Germans are simply just ostentatious and certainly makes an impression. The Lexus however gives away that you're a closet tree hugger.

2. Yes, the XJ looks timeless in my opinion, pity for the interior.

3. It's generic, though certainly impressionable and befitting its status... Definitely not beautiful.

4. I don't know. If you mean the most useful, probably the A8.

4. Which interior seems to be the most resourceful? = Most useful (Location of interior buttons, easy to use etc.)

Ahh, I see. Having not spent time in all of these vehicles, I don't feel I can make a proper judgement regarding that aspect.

Nice to see HighestOfHigh back in business here!
Anyway I voted for the S-Class, it`s still the king of the world. The A8 is also another very nice choice. The BMW 7er gets 3rd place imo. I really don`t care for the others and if I owned them I would feel like I`m driving less that pure German excutive feel. The Feel all we German car faners know of, ultimate power, authority and control.

I have thought about this further, and since we're talking about the entire range of engines under a particular model I'd choose the following:

1. Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG - Nothing else with 4-doors touches this car for performance and luxury. It absolutely rules.

2. Audi S8 - It is so quaint, so designer and so sheek as I like to say. An exotic engine and killer looks.

3. Jaguar XJ8 Super V8 - Old worlde styling updated for 2008, which I like very much thank you. Or a XJR.

4. Lexus LS460L - The Japanese class spoiler, a no-worry luxury car that specializes in pampering and techno goodies.

5. Bentley Continental Flying Spur - I can't stand the looks of it, but in all honesty does it really matter while driving? Interior, interior and interior puts this car over the last place finisher in my book.

6. BMW 760LI - While it does look better than the Bentley it is still no beauty, and it doesn't have the interior of the Bentley (which it isn't supposed too), so it would be the last car I'd choose here.

I am really surpised Bentley doesn't have more votes. I heard several people talk about how the Bentley is a Notch above the rest, yet most of you think the Germans are better.

Question:

What do you feel that Bentley is lacking to make it such a low rate in this Poll?

Design
Technology
Presence
Features

????

Why in your words is Bentley not winning this poll?

Why would price be an issue? Is it that you don't think it looks like it's worth that much?

Considering this is simply a poll and not something we are all going to actually purchase, I don't see why price would be an issue as far as voting.

Maybe I'm wrong????? Please explain what you mean.

Why in your words is Bentley not winning this poll?

It's lacking it all.

Design - looks like a stretched Conti GT
Technology- As good as it is, doesn't touch MB, A8 or 7er and even lexus has more.
Presence- This thing lacks the original presence of a Bentley. It has more presence than a Honda accord but it doesn't come close to the Germans or the Lexus.
Features- Technology and features go hand in hand...while this offers excellent luxury it's still below the S-klasse. Doesn't have the same tech as the germans and the lexus so that means it lacks features.

Just because it's a Bentley doesn't mean they can charge a premium for a car that doesn't bring anything new and is very unoriginal.
