M1 AutoZeitung: New "M1" supercar from BMW?

The BMW M1 (model code E26) is a mid-engined sports car produced by German automotive manufacturer BMW from 1978 until 1981. In the late 1970s, Italian automobile manufacturer Lamborghini entered into an agreement with BMW to build a production racing car in sufficient quantity for homologation, but conflicts arose that prompted BMW to produce the car themselves. The resulting car was sold to the public, from 1978 until 1981, as the BMW M1. It was the first mid-engine BMW automobile to be mass-produced; the second was the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car. @ Tyc, I find it interesting and quite funny to discuss it, especially as everybody has very valuable views and arguments. Such debates makes things go further I think.

What I regreat is that we don't have precious "insiders" or people in-the-know like EnI or Scott, so we can't really discuss as deep because we don't have the real explanations behing the moves and decisions of the brand. And sometimes I am sure we are missing some important points...

So these very interesting discussions are only possible concerning BMW..

:t-cheers:

I perfectly understand and have absolutely nothing against it. I just admire your persistence.:D

Keep on discussing!:usa7uh:

I totally agree with you here.. As BMW always love Debates..

IMO BMW cant build a supercar in the time being wither they want to focus more on their upcoming line up which is in my opinion is growing up too many variants...

Or the least is they fear that the supercar they are going to build might not be up to bar with it rivals...

I totally disagree that any supercar is 15 mintue car ..Even the M1 is still praised till this day as one of the best supercars has been built...

Bugatti still breaks necks on the road so the Zonda, Mclaren F1 and SLR , Enzo F40 F50, MC12 etc...

I can agree with these two points... I think some silly excuses are being made as to why there is no supercar in the line up...

Blah blah blah blah blah

What do you guys think?
I badly want a BMW supercar to finish every other car off.

A sort of 21st century McLaren F1, the child of their Motorsport division and F1 team, 1000KG, 10Krpm 6L V10 with 900hp, A gearbox that is directly inspired from their F1 one and ultra advanced aero polished day and night in their super advaced wind tunnel, the name would be either M or M0. Wouldn't that be great ? :D

I do share with you the same dream maybe.... or name it M1:D

If I had say € 200 000 to spare on a supercar I do not think I would have looked at BMW. To me BMW stands for that everyday sportiness that is so hard to find elswhere.

Supercar BMW? Well, fine with me as long as that doesn't mean that there will be no M3 CSL or CS, no 1-series or 3-series lightweight version...

Don't forget, though, that the McLaren F1 was not exactly a financial success. Gordon Murray had hoped on building around 300 of them. But with fluctuations in world economies being what they were, he was only able to build around 1/3rd of that, including the racers. It's a high-risk poker game in even the best of times (and it's anything but that at the moment). With the current push for "green vehicles," it's probably best that BMW pursue that direction.

Exactly, that is why BMW should do what they do better than anyone else; the ulitmate driving machine (for everyone). That development can be done at much less risk and the "green" thaught is perfect with BMW's philosophy. Most of the time the BMW in a comparison is the lightest and the weakest (and always the most inspiring and fun to live with). This will for sure work for them in the near future, it is always easier to get tose mpg's up with a light car.

Lol, you bet it would.

Nothing wrong with dreaming of course.:D

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
