I have seen the cover and was surprised. It´s an article about the new german cars between 2014 and 2017. The F30 was presented in 2011 and launched in 2012. When we take a 7-years-cycle the next 3-series must presented in late 2018/early 2019. Unless BMW would antedate the successor like the 5-series. Regular change would be in 2017. But the G11 will presented already in 2016 with launch in the same year as far as I know.

I think this has something to do with the fact that we know future bmws will have laser LED lights and also top models usually have design language (i8) that then transfers into lesser models. Just my point of view, but agreed that this render looks horrible.

The LCI seems to come late this year or early 2015.

Nope. 3er LCI is coming as planned: in Fall 2015. The testing perior for LCI models is quite long though. Mind first F25 X3 LCI spy photos were out in Fall 2012 - thet means 1.5 year before the launch of LCI model. Same case with 1er LCI - first pics were out in Spring 2013, the launch is in Fall 2014.

I would imagine at least preliminary work on the next 3er has begun. But I have no idea what it will look like as it is far too early to know anything. The LCI has been spied though.

... is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off.
Especially since the design process for the next 3er is still in the initial phase. Still quite some time away before the Board pics the final design proposal.
