it was Audi vs BMW in a swedish magazine!

I must admit the Germans have eaven better humor than the swedish when it comes to automotive jokes.. Still I agree with them

I just realized it would be 9-1 in favor of Audi for me (with the exception being E class). It was a surprise to myself I'd tilt so heavily for Audi.

For me it's 3 Audi and 6 MB. I honestly Can't vote on the R8 vs. SL because they are TOTALLY different cars. That's apples and oranges.

It was a tie for the A8 and the S Class... I agree with most of the reviews and scores except mine would be 8:5 to Audi

Not too surprising. Audi has been on a major roll.
I would have scored the A3 over the SLK.
R8 vs SL, no contest. R8 by a huge margin, for me. So for the aging SL to score like that is very complimentary to MB. I think a better competitor though would be the new CL. But even the base CL is already some 8K euro more expensive than the R8.

AutoZeitung makes a couple of these tests every year (Audi vs. BMW, BMW vs. Mercedes, Audi vs. Mercedes). IMO they have been quite unbiased (as a car mag they are far more neutral than AMS or Autobild). Without reading the test it's pointless to criticize the results.

Here's how I can do it: I take the SL, then take the R8, and see what they offer relative to each other.
To get an idea of how the companies compared, AutoZeitung obviously wanted to include as many reasonably comparable cars as possible. When they looked in the class of sporty 2-seaters of similar dimensions* with available V8s and electronically controlled suspensions in the 100K euro segment, the choices are pretty obvious. In the grand scheme of things, the SL is a very sporty car, just not to the level of execution of the R8. Such comparisons have been around for ages. 3.0CS vs 911, Corvette vs 911, M3 vs GT3, R8 vs 911, Boxster vs SLK, etc, etc. The cars don't have to match up, stat for stat, feature for feature, for a comparison to be made, although it helps.

*Forget what I said earlier about the CL; it's actually quite a bit larger than I realized.
