Looks like there's little difference between the two on the track. For me an RS isn't an RS unless its in estate form.

  • 1st place: Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG S (4,2/5 stars) - Brutal fast on the straightline, gives you the best everyday usability and high emotions.
  • 2nd place: Audi RS7 Sportback (4,1/5 stars) - Best price-to-power ratio, great straightline performance.
  • 3rd place: Porsche Panamera Turbo (4,0/5 stars) - Unmatchable cornering abilities, worst price-to-power ratio.
  • 4th place: BMW M6 GC Competition (3,9/5 stars) - The least comfortable and the most emotional car in this quartet.

That margin is SO small between the cars. 3.9 to 4.2 out of 5 stars. We are talking 7.5% variance from first to last for cars varying in price by as much as $30%...

Some interesting comments though;

- CLS63 - "best everyday usability" ??? The RS7 is a hatchback and the only one with a 5th seat option (in Europe at least which is where the test was conducted)
- RS7 - "great straightline performance" ??? Wasn't it among the worst straightline performance overall???
- M6 GC Comp - "Least comfortable" ??? Isn't that 100% subjective??? And the M6 GC offers 'Active Seats'. Was this example so equipped?

Seems to me they just picked the one they liked the most, not the one that was necessarily the best. Which is all well and good I guess.

I don't see what's hot about his lap.
Too much oversteer to call that a hot lap.
It is a driver's mistake. No matter the conditions it's simply unacceptable... maybe on a wet track it is but not here. Too much!

He's a pro, if you watch his laps with different cars, you'll see.

The car tends to go oversteer all the time, they stated in the article that the ESP Sport mode was the best choice for the fast lap, because when it's off the result is much worse.

The car also suffers from understeer in this video. He doesn't counteract the best way to it so it easily goes to oversteer.
I'm sure it wasn't the perfect day and perfect track for this particular M6GC but I also see driver's mistakes.... like going too fast in a corner and applying too much power at exit... resulting in understeer at entry that goes through apex... he then tries to balance it with the throttle but ends up overdoing it almost every time.

Their rating system is 100% subjective - that's why it also has an 'Emotion' section as well... It's not AMS or AutoZeitung.

CLS63 AMG S vs Panamera Turbo :)
