Audi unveils their ART robot, promises to improve dealership repair jobs

Will eventually be used in 100 U.S. dealerships
Audi has announced plans to begin using an advanced communications robot to help dealership technicians quickly diagnose and troubleshoot problems.

Dubbed ART, for Audi Robotic Telepresence, the robot will provide dealership technicians with a virtual link to service experts at Audi of America. Audi says this will enable them to "inspect and help service vehicles as if they were standing alongside the local dealer technicians."

The robot is remotely controlled and displays the operator’s face on a screen. It also has an attached borescope and handheld camera to allow dealership technicians to show the company's service experts engine components and other difficult-to-reach areas even if they're thousands of miles away.

According to Audi of America General Manager of Technical Support, Brian Stockton, “ART was designed with both Audi technicians and consumers in mind. The device will give local service technicians valuable one-on-one interaction with their counterparts at Audi of America, which will not only benefit the speed and depth of service at the dealer level, but create an improved ownership experience for the customer in general.”

Audi expects to have ART robots in 100 dealerships across the United States and 18 of them already have the robot as part of a pilot program.
