Hm,

I'm completely divided on these two cars. Ideally, I'd have and S135i, with an I6 engine, Audi interior, Audi headlights, BMW rear. etc. etc.

Honestly, it would probably come down to who would pay the most for my current car. I know, it's boring but I'm getting older.

Hi All
just got my new M135i 5 doors to replace my 2011 S3 model.
Yes. it changes, we are talking about 2 cars barely comparable.
Engine: I wanted to come back to a 6 rather than x time boosted 4 even with 300hp for the model. no regrets, magic sound, linear, coupled with the 8 speeds gear it's gorgeous.
Drive : I'll miss the quattro more for the security feeling than the real risk of 2 rear WD. the BMW is really safe and you never feel unsafe
Look : I found the new S3 to shy compared to the more agressive body of M135 - but it's a personnal issue
Quality : this is where I could really regret Audi, in the summum of quality achieved - everything is perfect, neutral, every invisible detail is worked to make the car blameless.
M135i is more rustic, from plastic quality to interior element ajustments, leather seat aspect, carpet,..;everything is a level behind Audi.
so my advise would be; don't try to compare or make it rational, it's a crush to have from one of these two

The biggest difference between AWD amd RWD is the security it gives you, no matter how many times I change from one to the other it's the one thing I notice most.

P.S.
Noticing interior differences and this is the old model of A3 which doesn't feel as luxurious as the new one.

Looks sensational side-on - love that M Performance side sill. I've always maintained this. Even rear three-quarter is very good on the eye. It's the front dead-on that's so awful.

Nevertheless, I've haven't bought a car based on its looks in a decade now. It's the long-term ownership satisfaction (primary) and overall driver appeal (secondary) that carry weight for me.

M-pack redefines the front quite well IMHO. Especially in Estoril Blue. Here's M-pack (not M135i though):

IRL the convex / concave surfaces flow quite well ... The "problem" the front suffers from is the upright front-end ... And it will stay as such even if headlight cluster design is changed. But with such massive & squareish SUVish nose F20/F21 appears very bullish - which is IMO a good thing though.

The problem is those sad, droopy eyes. But I've said enough about that - let's leave it be for what it is: the best hyperhatch on sale right now. [Disregarding a little rust here and there of course...]

The new 1 series is a disaster, I don't know how someone can live with a car that hideous in their garage.

I couldnt agree more. Its so funny when the Beemer fanboys try to force themselfes to like it. Makes me laugh everytime :)

The car does look better in those last two pics. And yes for a lot of people looks is not the only or even a significant criteria.

Yes its still a bmw and drives like no other, and im in love with the current BMW line up, all perfected but this one, Hyundai can do better!

I hated this car when it came to the market (and I still think the base version is unflattering) but after I've seen a couple of them with M-package its not as bad as you think. I assure you, there are worse looking cars out on the roads.

I agree the M/Sport looks way better but it's ridiculous that it takes a bodykit to improve it's looks to the kind of level that it doesn't make babies cry, what were BMW thinking when they signed off on it's design?

Surprisingly or not - the F20/F21 has been a hit, and people seem to like it for one or another reason. And obviously its look isn't such a problem at all. At least not a deal breaker. Right now about 180,000 people (and counting) have decided for F20/f21 already. Despite the (IMO too steep) steep price, which IMO will have to be corrected (eg. more standard equipment for the same price - to give it more value more money) now when the direct rivals are available in new editions. And certainly some quality issues will have to be addressed ASAP (the rust on seat frames, too plastic & rustic interior materials in the cabin etc).

If anything is holding back F20/F21 (even greater) sales is the price, and some quality issues, and some hindered functionality. Not the look.

It's interesting ... it seems generally women do show more love & sympathy towards F20/F21, while men have more second thoughts.

It's safe to say that F20 is a threat to the sales of F30.
