Over 1,000,000 Engines Produced in the First Six Months of the Year for the First Time


AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. has set another engine production record during the first half of 2007: the company has already exceeded the one million mark in the first six months of the year. 1,013,697 (994,777)* engines were produced in Gy?r by the end of June, 1.9% more than in the same period last year. There was also a significant increase in the production of the Audi TT and TT Roadster sports cars during the first half of the year. 32,089 (5,194) vehicles left the factory floor.

Audi Hungaria generated revenue of around EUR 3.14** billion (EUR 2.45 billion) during the first half of 2007. Of the total capital investments of EUR 300 million planned to be made by the end of 2007, around EUR 130 million was invested between January and June 2007.The total capital investments from the year in which the company was founded in 1993, to the end of June 2007 have thus increased to EUR 3.18 billion. **

“The key financial figures were up once again during the first half of 2007. This means that we are on the right track and will have another excellent year,” said Dr Johannes Roscheck, Director of Finance at Audi Hungaria.

The new Audi A3 Cabriolet will be assembled at AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. in Gy?r in the future. This was confirmed by Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management at AUDI AG, in the presence of the Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány at the Parliament in Budapest at the end of June.

“Audi Hungaria is not only growing in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality. The impressive figures reaffirm our commitment to continuously improve production processes and structures. This is the ideal basis on which to launch the production of the new Audi A3 Cabriolet and the expansion of the engine range. The preparations for the A3 Cabriolet are already in full swing”, said Thomas Faustmann, Chairman of the Board of Management at Audi Hungaria.

The number of employees at AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. rose in recent months thus increasing the number of highly qualified staff. It had 5,498 (5,158) employees as at the end of June 2007, an increase of 6.6 percent.

AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft., a wholly-owned subsidiary of AUDI AG with headquarters in Gy?r, has been one of the main engine suppliers of the Audi and the Volkswagen Group for twelve years. The Audi TT Coupé and TT Roadster sports cars are also assembled in Gy?r. Audi Hungaria has been Hungary’s biggest exporter for several years and is one of the highest revenue companies in the country.

AUDI HUNGARY: 15 MILLION ENGINES IN 15 YEARS

15 years of growth and continuous success: Audi Hungaria, a fully-owned subsidiary of AUDI AG, is celebrating its 15th anniversary in Gyor this year. In spring 1993, AUDI AG signed a purchase agreement for the acquisition of a production hall from Rába, a truck manufacturer based in Gyor, and announced the establishment of AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft.

The purchase of the 100,000 square meter (1,076,391 square foot) production hall was the first milestone in the history of Audi Hungaria. The plant has since grown to 1.6 million square meters (17,222,256 square feet). 5,800 employees build nearly two million engines and over 55,000 automobiles there each year. More than €3.3 billion has been invested in the plant in total.
Initially with 800 employees and daily production of 2,000 engines, Audi Hungaria now employs 5,800 workers who produce as many as 7,000 engines and 300 automobiles each day.
“Audi Hungaria plays a prominent role within AUDI AG and the VW Group. As one of Hungary’s largest employers, Audi Hungaria is also a figurehead for the Hungarian economy. The rapid development of Audi Hungaria in the past 15 years is a credit to the entrepreneurial dedication, commitment and high level of motivation of the employees,” said Frank Dreves, Chairman of the Supervisory Commission of AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. and Member of the Board of Management for Production of AUDI AG.
In 1993, the year in which the company was founded, the first four-cylinder, five-valve gasoline engines were produced at Audi Hungaria. The Gyor engine plant started series production in 1994 with a daily production capacity of 500 units. The engine range has been expanded substantially over the past 15 years. Today Audi Hungaria is the Audi Group’s major engine supplier and the world’s second-largest engine plant. Up to 7,000 diesel and gasoline engines with four, six, eight and ten cylinders are produced each day at the plant, which covers more than 1.6 million square meters (17,222,256 square feet).
The Gyor plant also produces engines for the brands of the Volkswagen Group in addition to Audi. To date, Audi Hungaria has produced more than 15.4 million engines. The 15 millionth engine was installed in an Audi TT, which the company donated to the Hungarian traffic police as a duty vehicle.
The scope of business of AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. was expanded in 1998 to include automobile production. Since then the company has assembled the Audi TT Coupé and the TT Roadster, which were joined in November 2007 by the Audi A3 Cabriolet. This year automobile production in Gyor is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Approximately 400,000 automobiles have rolled out of the assembly plant over the past 10 years. The company’s duties were expanded in 2001 to include engine development. The Development Center currently employs some 100 workers.
2004 saw the completion of an additional project: the construction of the Gy?r tool shop, which produces numerous body parts for the Audi R8, RS 4 and RS 6.

Audi has invested more than €3.3 billion in the Gyor site to date, which makes the company one of the largest foreign investors in Hungary. Audi Hungaria is the country’s second-largest exporter, accounting for nine percent of Hungary’s total export volume.
AUDI AG sold a total of 964,151 cars in 2007 and thus achieved its twelfth consecutive record year. With revenue of €33,617 million and profit before tax of €2,915 million, the company attained its best figures ever. Audi produces vehicles in Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm (Germany), Györ (Hungary), Changchun (China) and Brussels (Belgium). At the end of 2007, production of the Audi A6 started in Aurangabad, India. The company is active in more than 100 markets worldwide. AUDI AG’s wholly owned subsidiaries include Lamborghini S.p.A. in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, and quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm. Audi employs more than 54,000 people worldwide, including 45,000 in Germany. The brand with the four rings invests more than € 2 billion each year in order to sustain the company’s technological lead embodied in its “Vorsprung durch Technik” slogan. Audi plans to significantly increase the number of models in its portfolio by 2015, from the 26 currently on offer to 40.
