Re: Audi A5 Official Pictures: LEAKED

Richboy...Let's agree to disagree! :D

Choleric...what you present holds merit. I do see the design of the orignal s2 in this. But what I fail to see is how this is Walter's best design.

Merc1....While I agree that his is more of a CLk competitor than the 335, this has WAYS to go before it can compete with the 6er. And btw...the current 335 is more than enough for the CLK comfort and performance wise.

just my 2-cents :t-cheers:

I hope none of you guys are reading what I write the wrong way...I have stated that this is a beautiful design and I like it a lot!

I like it, in general. I think overall its a very well thought design. The headlights are gorgeous, the door line, side skirt, fatty c piller, and even some aspects of the shoulder line are very attractive....

Yet there are elements that need to grow on me. I personally think the rear is odd, especially with the rest of the design. The shoulder line makes it seem flowing but it comes to quick stop at the rear, which could be described as bulky and like someone else pointed out, hatchbackish....

The presence is very nice-it should produce a lot of curb appeal. good job Audi :t-cheers:

Re: Audi A5 Official Pictures: LEAKED

I think this is going to be a dead-on CLK competitor more than the 3-Series. I can already see the cabriolet version and the S/RS versions. I guess pricing will ultimately decide what it competes against, but sizewise tells me CLK or even 6-Series. The Coupe segment are harder to pin down because most of them don't compete directly with each other.

M

Nope. Audi is sporting, just like BMW, not comfy MB. The whole premise of this car is to bring Audi cars closer in handling to the much lauded BMW handling characteristics.

Yeah you're right about the 6-Series, but you never know. I want to know if the rumored 324hp n/a V6 is going to be present here. If that is the case it will be compared by some mags to the 6-Series. Is there a 635i yet? The 335i destroys the current CLK350 that is without question. I'm thinking that since the 3-Series Cabrio is not a folder hardtop the next CLK will go that route too. MB needs to hurry up the competition is mounting.

That may be their goal, but the results up till now have been mixed at best. To truly do that I think they're going to have to go rwd, which isn't going to happen. Beisides the RS4 I don't see where they've actually matched BMW in dynamics, but we'll see what this A5 drives like. The current CLK is of the old Mercedes compared to some of their newer models which handle much better so this comfy thing doesn't get blown out of proportion.

Just remember this is an entirely new platform, so we really cannot be sure of how it will handle and perform.

The only thing that makes the A5 a CLK challenger are it's size and the availability of a V8 engine. Other than that we're talking core 3er competitor. CLK is kind of in a price bracket of it's own. Same size class, but that's it.

Yeah that is what I'm really saying here. No matter how we here think the cars match up, the average buyer still compares them, they aren't nearly the enthusiasts we are here. This A5 looks to be about the size of a CLK than a 3er Coupe, IMO. If it has a V8 then it definitely will be compared to the CLK. Most buyers (especially here in the U.S.) are going to compare them on price, engine, size moreso than the corporate stated, competitive dynamic goals.

M

^ The only reason teh 335i isnt compared to the CLK 550/500 is because of the huge price gap-however performance figures suggest they are closer than we think.

I dont think the A5 V8 will be out of the 335i's performance league-perhaps its price league though.

Is there any info on engine yet? I'm guessing it will have the 350hp V8 from the A8/A6? I'm really more interested in the new V6 Yannis and the like were talking about in another Audi thread.

No. MB holds the line as a maker of cars that place comfort as the overriding priority. BMW and Audi make sport number one. Audi has yet to match BMW in dynamics mainly because the majority of it's line up if not all are really over engineered Vee Dubs (no offense, it's the truth). In essence the B7 RS4 (one of my fav cars of all time) is nothing more than a heavily modded MKIV Jetta at the core, along w/ that overriding factor what Audi wants to achieve has become unattainable w/ the VWAG corporate platform sharing being overly compromised by wanting to be all things to all people. On the other hand the B8 platform is Audi's and Audi's alone, tuned specifically for superior driving dynamics over anything Audi has created before this side of the R8.

For me, it is a big disappointment after Nuvolari. Not sure why Audi is leaving it's clean understated lines behind for the swoopy lines. And if you are going to go that way, go all the way instead of this half hearted bastard between the two schools that looks more like Hyundai than an Audi.

The interior on the other side is again a class act from Audi - again - far better than anything from BMW or Mercedes and fortunately that is all you have to see while inside.

My 2 cents!

True, but the way you're making it sound is like MB makes poor handling cars like a Cadillacs of days gone by. All I'm saying that it isn't so cut and dry all the time anymore because Audi hasn't matched BMW in most cases and not all Mercedes' handle poorly compared to certain BMWs and Audis either.

I like the Nuvolari's side profile better, but I like the A5's front end more than the Nuvos. When looking at both of them together the production car is somewhat of a letdown, but that low-slung roof had no chance to make it to production.

Woooow... Nice rant!:usa7uh:

Personally I am glad the A5 did not look like the Nuvolari, it is an old concept and many of it's design cues have been implemented throughout the Audi model range over the past few years, i.e. the grill. This A5 looks fresh and aggressive, especially the low roof line, small front overhang, the muscular shoulder line and front end.

I'd of been pissed if it came out looking like the Nuvolari. As Choleric so perfectly stated, all the positive styling cues were taken from it, but the Nuvolari is no spring chicken!;)

Thought it would be Interesting to compare it to the many PS's we saw and so often argued over...

As you can see, the top three chops, were very accurate, despite how vehemently some of us denounced them earlier.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
