A1/S1 Audi A1 Sportback concept: pics & info

The Audi A1 is a luxury supermini car produced by Audi. Predecessor: Audi 50, Audi A2. Production: 2010-2026.
These Audi designers look very nerdy. :D

And, a very interesting info from the video: the side roof line / arch will be customizable: offered in (any?) desired color. So, not only in silver-metallic like seen on Concept car or scooped A1 pic.

I didn't know that to be a car designer you have to look metrosexual...;)

Didn't know the opposite of nerdy is metrosexual? :t-hands: :D

Any way the videos are so scientific - just like the car was designed in a forensic / chemical / NASA lab, not in a design studio. :usa7uh: Only protective glasses & white coats missing. :D

It reminds me of those ads for washing agents: presenting the making of a product in such scientific manner. :D;)

A bit sterile, don't you think? I expected a bit more funky teasers than this ones - especially since the initial videos & teaser photos were quite funkier & more in line with such a product & targeted audience.

:t-hands:

^Glad to see i am not alone to think that :D , as for the nerd look, not so long ago it would have been BMW people's natural style, hell you only had to look to their former F1 team with all its Doctors to understand it :D

I was only saying that because the BMW team looks so metro in their pics, especially Hooydonk. :D

I completely agree with you there. After looking at the wall-graffiti, you'd think they would continue that theme. But, may be they're going for the "fun for the consumer, but designed seriously" way of doing business. LOL

Pretty much what I've said multiple times in the past. Audi are trying to mirror the Mini-coolness factor with generous customisation options. So expect to see great similarities in options and endless special editions. I wouldn't be surprised if the A1 line-up expands into SUVs and funky roadsters. Expect Audi to closely watch monitor the sales of the Mini SUV.

With their resources and expetise, they can very quicky ape what ever Mini do.

It has already been said by Audi they are palnning 4-model line up. 3dr & 5dr hatch are already official. So it is the mini-SUV. While the 4th model is either cabrio or mini-roadster, I guess.

Do you mini regarding model line-up, or customization?

Regarding line-up, I'm sure they will follow MINI. Regarding customization I have quite an opinion on that. :D

....

Customization. Sure, but cars like MINI & F500 are eg. retro-icons. They look cool with all the funky & tacky customization. They supposed to look a bit toyish. I don't think that will look so cool on A1. It's pretty modern & techy design, therefore funky & toyish customization is questionable. Sure the arch will look OK in nutral colors like silver, black or white. Other colors are a bit iffy. I can't imagine silver A1 with purple arch eg. It would look utterly stupid on that car & design.

Citroen Pluriel also had customization options of some sort - but it didn't work well since the car was too modern in look although wanting to look funky. Same case to some extent with Renault Twingo - where you can choose from various "tatoos" that can be applied to the car sides etc.

It just doesn't look well on such cars. It looks good on iconic retro funky toyish little cars like MINI or F500, or cars like eg. Nissan Cube, or smart.

Not sure A1 can bare much more customization than customizable roof arch (yet in some specific neutral colors only), and some options inside - like special upholstery or some changeable part of trim etc.

C'mon. Audi A1 is looking more classy than funky & toyish. And definitely modern vs retro. Putting tacky stuff on it will look utterly stupid. Like eg. THIS. :eusa_doh:

Even with the neutral non-body colored roof arch the car can look (like it was in Pluriel case) like being a car with a handle. Looking ike a lady's bag / purse from the side. :eusa_thin

IMO the customization on A1 - at least the arch thingy - won't be as common at all. In the interior people will go more often with special choices, I guess. I still have to see what options will Audi offer for the cabin customization.

My 2 cents. :t-cheers:

I don't like the idea of custom coloured arch either. There are few photos out there of Audi R8's with custom coloured side blades, and some of combinations are not pretty. A silver coloured arch should be the final stop for choices. But let's wait until Audi push out the press pack so that we can get a full scope of Audi's vision for this car.

I never understood why BMW fans have to put down Audi every chance they have...even the designers are "nerdy"...

These conclusions are motivated by envy or fear perhaps?:eusa_thin

Remember. It's always the bully who has problems with insecurity and selfconfidence.:D

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany.
