A1/S1 Audi A1 Sportback concept: pics & info


The Audi A1 is a luxury supermini car produced by Audi. Predecessor: Audi 50, Audi A2. Production: 2010-2026.
Not a fan of the silver pillars, massive grille, and chrome wheels. But a lot of neat detailing, like the integration of the dual exhaust pipes in the bumper. Fender arches add muscle without being too obvious. The hood looks like a clamshell and the way the shutline runs into the beltline reminds me of the old BMW '02. Nice styling elements that adds character to this class of car.

The campaign concept reminds me very much of original "Principle of joy / Prinzip Freude " campaign / ad for 1er (hatch) when the car was launched.

The A8 has the same thing on the fogs place, it´s a sensor for the active tempomat.
 
It looks hip and modern. Will be a big hit in Europe. Mini better watch out.
 
The front looks gorgeous; best front in an Audi that I've seen in a long time. Rear is quite boring, but at least the front is interesting.

Prices in Norway will start around 220 000,- NOK
I don't know what that's in Dollar but it's very cheap for premium car.
I was at the Audi Kickoff 2010 in Norway and many cars was put on display.
One of them the A1 with the real deal pictures...

Sad story ... but I was along with my boss working that thay so we came just to late
to see the new models for our selfs but the price is quite accurate.

I'm not sure, not that exciting, but on the other hand, Audi might have other than exciting intentions with this car?

This is what audi press release says about the A1 chasis - the concept though but I guess the production one won't be any different.


The fundamental ingredient for outstanding driving safety and handling dynamics is supplied by the sophisticated chassis design, comprising McPherson front suspension and four-link independent rear suspension.

Thanks to the newly developed active, ESP-controlled front differential lock, propulsive torque is distributed according to the driving situation, thereby achieving enhanced steering precision and superior directional stability as well as improved traction and dynamic handling when cornering.

The dynamic chassis is tuned for sporty, agile handling combined with excellent stability, and makes cornering a particular delight. What’s more, the chassis excels with a level of ride comfort befitting of higher vehicle classes.

The specific strengths of the four-link suspension stem from the way in which it splits the functions for absorbing longitudinal and lateral forces. This permits a high level of lateral rigidity on the one hand for optimum dynamism and driving safety, while offering a great degree of longitudinal flexibility on the other to improve ride comfort.

The concept car also featured Magnetic ride shock absorbers - which I guess will be offered in some high-end models like eg. S1.

Thanks EnI, I'd be surprised if the A1 doesn't simply use the Torsion-beam based platform of the new Polo.

But then again, if they are targeting MINI then I suppose a more sophisticated rear setup is mandatory. Fun, fun, fun...
