Get ready for the biggest cry me a river of excuses in the world when MB passes BMW this year. For the past 11 years it mattered, but this year it won't because BMW won't be #1. Watch and see.

Did it matter to Mercedes fans for the last 11 years?

Based on one month? Hilarious.

Whatever you all need to tell yourselves I guess.

There is no more need for explanations....sedan vs cabrio, or not. Now, BMW 7 sedan sold more than Mercedes S class (sedan+cabrio+coupe+maybach)

6 months (from june) 7 series is very close, and now it lead the pack...
btw. if we exclude Vans from Merc-cars numbers, Merc is in lead for about 20k cars, YTD.

Now is the best timing for the 7er, several months before the facelift of the S class and a year before the launch of the new A8. After this two events it would be much harder to maintain this high sales numbers.

And you don't have S class with 2,0 petrol engine, unlike 7 series on some markets ( 730i China and Turkey )
Also, Merc is well behind BMW and Audi on the Chinese market in total.
But not that much like in the past.
And that's the reason why they are on the top this year.
Still, it's about 70k less than BMW in the China and about 100k less from Audi in 2016.
When they more reduce the gap in China, we now the rest...

It's an interesting point, if I were Merc1 I'd be rating your post as old, and saying "It's not BMW's fault Mercedes don't offer a 2.0 Petrol engine", or I'd be accusing you of crying a river of excuses...

.. but since I'm me... I'll just point out that the contribution of Turkey to the figures is most likely small (the entire car market is <1/10th of the USA, let alone the premium luxury sedan market), and in China which to be fair, is a much bigger market, the fact the entry level 730Li has a 1998cc 4 cylinder doesn't really change anything when the equivalent entry level S320L S-Class is only 4% more expensive, 5% more powerful, yet slower and less economical (perhaps they need to offer the same 4 cylinder 2.1 litre Diesel Electric Hybrid S-Class that they offer in Turkey, in China).

@Matski
No, excuses don't needed for S class. Just compare when W222 was fresh and now G11.
2014 November S class - 10,268
2016 November 7er - 6,883

BTW, Mercedes still leads so keep trying to pick apart, spin, manipulate the data to BMW's advantage......thing is you can't.
