Elon Musk confirms that there will be a new Roadster (gen 3)
- Debut in 2018, coming to market in 2019
- It will be lighter but sacrifice a little range
- 220 mile range
- 0-60 mph in 3 sec
- Lighter than previous Tesla roadster
- Use Model III platform

According to Musk, customers have already send money for deposits and orders to Tesla.

I like him but question the need to announce cars several years before they are on the showroom floor. Sure down payments help a tiny bit with cash flow but over-promotion can only have a negative impact on your brand if the product doesn't live up to the hype.

What Tesla should focus on is how to build an affordable 3-series rival. That's a car type that would make Tesla a threatening player in the automotive market.
