2014 Engine of the Year Awards are out: Good news for Audi, BMW and MB
The International engine of the year awards is a respected award, given for the third year in a row to Ford's 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine, which also won the sub-1.0l category. With a power output of either 100 or 125 hp, it's found in the current Ford Fiesta, B-Max, Focus, C-Max, Grand C-Max and Tourneo Connect in both the European and US market.
There are good news for Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz as well, as each one of the three manufacturers won two award categories. Audi, for starters, won the 2.0-liter to 2.5-liter category with the 5 cylinder 2.5 TFSI currently found in the RS Q3, while the Volkswagen Group 1.4 TSI engine also used by the lower end of Audi's line-up won the 1.0-liter to 1.4-liter category.
BMW's N55 3.0-liter twin-power turbo six-cylinder gasoline won the 2.5-liter to 3-liter category, as does since its debut and the brand's 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol developed in collaboration with Peugeot, as used in the MINI and various Peugeot models, with a power output between 125 (in the Peugeot 308) and 270 (in the Peugeot RCZ R) won the 1.4 to 1.8-liter category. Finally, Mercedes-Benz AMG's record specific output 2.0l turbocharged four cylinder engine won the 1.8 to 2.0-liter category. This is the 360 hp engine of the A, CLA and GLA 45 AMG.
