F1 2007 Belgian Grand Prix

Don't you say anything about the illegal floor of the Ferrari, 450SEL6.9, which was an obvious illegal advantage? Shouldn't they be punished for that? Doesn't your Kimi and Massa benefited from that illegal advantage?

Because the floor wasn't illegal according to the race stewards that certified the results of the races. You can say the stewards changed how they inspected the cars and the stewards (perhaps with a nudge from another team) clarified the rule about flexi-floors, but the fact remains that the Ferrari early season car passed post-race scrutineering at those races it competed in. Therefore, they were not illegal, according to F1 regulations (at the time), so Ferrari was guilty of nothing, no illegal advantage. Contrast that with Mclaren, which was found guilty twice in consecutive hearings.

I also noticed the wheel caps don't move today. Besides that, I think they are fugly. What happened to the BBS rims?

here you go...

The front wheel covers are fixed because they have an actual aerodynamic purpose. The front covers does not rotate to direct the hot air from the brakes to the underside of the car to reduce drag and increase the diffuser efficieny.

I think the rear ones do. I heard that reasoning on TV commentary last year when Ferrari first started having these discs on the rear wheels.

The rear ones does spin with the wheels. It does reduce drag but its main function is to cool the rear brakes by extracting the hot air through the middle of the cover.

For people who argue about the flexable floor and saying it is illegal and Ferrari should have been punished, remember the mass-damper system used by the Renault team last year. Their cars pass all scrutineering at those races it competed in, and their points was awarded. Later when FIA out law this device, Renault did not lose all the points they have scored previousely with the mass damper system.

I just don't understand what the Mclaren supporters were arguing about.

Thanks. Didn't know that. I guess one could make the point that if it cools the rear brakes by extracting air - it is aerodynamic in nature - the same way the little break cooling intakes count as aerodynamic devices.

true, just like i don't understand why FIA outlaw-ed it the 1st place. they were hoping to present MS his retirement present with the 8th WDC.

The mass damper has 2 functions, it helps the front tyres to maintain constant maximum contact on the road as well as reducing the pitch sensitivity of the front nose cone and wings. The FIA has an issue with the 2nd fucntion. As a Ferrari fan I do think the FIA is hoping to present MS another WDC.

As far as I'm concerned, the only top team that should deserve recognition this year is BMW for the jump from 8th place at the start of last year, to 2nd (or 3rd, however you look at it) this year. They are also the only top team to just get on with the racing and avoid the politics seen as seen by the public.

I mean this year, as far as I can remember, BMW hasn't lodged a single protest or complaint this year. When McLaren complained about the Flexi-floors, BMW just strengthened it and got on with the racing, no complaints - nothing.

I'm actually looking forward to next season now. Hopefully BMW will built a race winning car, but what I'm most interested in, is how McLaren are going to fit all their equipment in a garage the same size as Spykers. Their motorhome alone will probably be bigger than the parking space they are allocated. Now thats going to require some engineering brilliance ;)

Yeah, I read someone in the paddock said that he was really interested in how McLaren will manage to drive their giant motorhome at the end of the paddock and put all the high-tech material in their new place...

And with this fine to pay, will they have enough cash to develop their car and compete with Ferrari?

What will do Mercedes? Nothing it seems.... But they were already angry that Dennis sold 20% to I don't know who whereas they wanted to buy these 20%...

What will do Alonso? His attempt to threaten Dennis was a terrible mistake...

Next year will be interesting I think...

Concerning all the complains about the drivers: beside the fact that nothing is proven and that all the others parties think McLaren was over-punished...
The aim of the FIA is to make the F1 interesting so that everybody look at it and go to the races.
After so many years of more or less easy wins of Schumi and Ferrari, we now hava a real battle between 4 top drivers and 2 manufacturers. it makes the season interesting.

Now that the FIA gave the manufacturer cup to Ferrari, do you think it would have been smart to gave them also the drivers title? No suspense because Kimi surely would win against Massa, the carreer of Lewis threatened and all his fans would have boycotted the F1...

If McLaren had been excluded for 2008, Lewis would have been dead. Ferrari without real competition. F1 with even less suspense than before. IMO this would have been the end of the F1 too, or not so far from that.

Furthermore, it would have been the war in the F1, Dennis would have tried to kill as many teams as possible, made appeal and appeal, and civil court too, because he does not want to die alone. No more sponsors, Mercedes surely threatened him either to seel him the rest of McLaren for nothing or they would go somewhere else to do F1, MvcLaren dead means war and court in the F1 for many years, all interests for sport lost, Dennis trying to shot everybody...

Just imagine the scene.

The FIA had no choice. To punish McLaren, means not to exclude them for 2008 and not to take Lewis' points.

F1 is sport, but business too. Think further if you don't want to kill yourself...

Mclaren can share their space with Pro-drive, not sure if Ron can handle it though.

BMW were the the 5th team in 2006 and now 3rd in 2007 by performance. Still a big gap.

Ferrari without competition next year ?!
So last Ferrari fought with McLaren ?!

You seem to be forgetting BMW and Renault.

Mclaren can share their space with Pro-drive, not sure if Ron can handle it though.

Small teams should start a new business venture - rent out their space. Something like a million dollars a square metre. I'm sure Mclaren can afford it.

BMW and Renault doesn't stand a chance against Ferrari. Just look at the races. The gap between the top for drives and the others behind them is substantial. They can't keep up with Mclaren and BMW.
