1er / 2er future models: Scott26 reports; part 2

The convertible and coupe will follow closely the overall ideas of the CS1 Concept - The idea was just too precious to toss away - Knowing how much the car appealed not only in its Geneva debut but BMW also shipped it over to the USA for the 02 NY Autoshow where it also had exceptional appeal. Whilst Europe are expecting a range of engines similar to the 1er the US markets will receive a 223i and a 235i.

With the emphasis firmly on driver enjoyment for the Baby coupe the Benchmark is of course the 2002 and its inheritor the E30. But with driver enjoyment much the focus that BMW are evaluating the unorthodox choices: such as the lotus Elise for handling and precision.

The Baby M car when it arrives will use an engine developed from the WTCC car only with six cylinders and close to over 350 BHP. The four cylinder model badged Si will be available in the 3dr 1er giving BMW a rival to the Golf GTi.

That sounds...SO enticing.

350HP inline-6 + small, sleek coupe shape + RWD + 6-speed manual - iDrive - weight = Masterpiece.

BMW, it's all up to you now. They have all the opportunity in the world to make this car to potentially be one of the best cars ever. Let's hope they can do it right.

Oh yeah.
Any rumors/news on how heavy will the 2er be.
Using the Lotus Elise as the standard/benchmark is great.
Finally. :eusa_doh:

I don't understand, and what about the NG4T ?? I don't see what he means by an engine developped form WTCC ??

I guess he wants to tell that 120si will use updated / uptuned I4 engine from 320si, while M2 will use the I6 engine derived from the I4 engine BMW use in 320si WTCC racing version.

This is on contrary what he (scott26) said earlier: no N54 engine in 2er (due to heavy weight: 187kg) neither I6 in M2 for the same reason - therefore NG4T in M2.

So, what's correct now? Scotty is blowing it this time! :eusa_doh:

Yep, I don't understand that either.

Is it only me who is excited about the 2er. I'm so in love with the porportions of the cabrio, the coupe will look crazy.

I agree 100%

We can expect something like this: :usa7uh:

A 350 hp little coupe? That will blow everything that ///M has right now. As much as I love the idea, this might be a bit too good to be true. But I guess we can always hope that the car makes it to the final stages.

In 2008 the Z4 roadster will be entering it's final year of production , at this time both Z4M roadster and Z4M Coupe will inherit the new M3's V8 - With the baby M car entering production of 2008 it makes sense to enter this segment with an Mcar - the entry M car at about 350 PS. And remember with the current mainstream models being fettled nothing has been decided as yet in relation to the Mcar. But as always at BMW the creative fountain is flowing.

i hope they really make it. I be the first at the dealer to buy one. Just keep the weight down i can t say it enough.

weight is the enemy of any good race car.

Wow, real nice.

Yeah, I agree, plus the 2002 weight was ~1080 Kg, lither than almost every supercar of today and more agile than a Porsche 911.

Hopefully by the time the Z4M coupe and roadster get the M3's V8(is BMW starting a tradition here?) there will also be a manumatic tranny available for the lazy shifters of us.:D The V8 alone is great news but may kill the weight of this car unless they plan to counter the increased weight w/ the new engine by engineering some new lightweight bits into the chassis, which I'm sure they probably will.

If the do an M car for the 2er range, that would be a great buy for any driving enthusiast, and they'll really have to curtail production numbers down to a slim number of units, don't want to see these things parading the streets. Lastly, I'm slightly reserved in the idea of purchasing a 2er for the simple fact that I have an overriding fear that this car will be a cutesy, femine looking, compact car. Here's hoping for the better.:t-cheers:

Right now BMW has alot of balls in the air but when might the 2-series be presented, January 2007?

You say that, but the amount of M3s I see is amazing, they're everywhere!

I reckon I see more M3s than 3er coupes and now the M3 is nothing special!

I am almost into buying a porsche 996 gt3rs. Only a little bit of extra news of the M2 could resist me from buying a GT3 RS.

I'd say that indeed there are a good number of E46 M3's rolling around. At the same time it's not like an everday occurence that I see one, so it's not like a regular 3 series. I predict w/ the higher price tag, that the the E9 cars will still be wide spread thanks to the increase in model variation from traditional coupe to the versatile uber four door sedan. What you can take from this in regards to how I look at it, it doesn't bother me one bit.:t-cheers:
