Dog Town

These were taken at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary near Kanab, Utah. A beautiful area and home of Dog Town seen on the National Geographic channel. This cat and many others have feline leukemia and are in quarantine before they enter the general cat population at the site. The BFAS has over 2000 animals on the 3800 acre site. It is a no-kill sanctuary and most animals are last resort saves from around the country. It is a wonderful place to visit and see the work they do. Many will remember the Michael Vick (football player) Pit Bull scandal which landed him in jail. 22 of his dogs were taken by Dog Town and many are now rehabilitated and perhaps many will be adopted.

Access to the animals is quite restricted as they are being rehabilitated and many have various special care needs. So I did get a few of this cat and one of a dog I decided to Sponsor. His name is Scruffy and is a survivor of hurricane Katrina. The last image is of a staff member interfacing with one of the large dogs... pretty well tells the story of the great care these homeless pets get at Dog Town.

All shot with 50D and EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens:

I shot this through a Van window which had film on it during a tour of Dog Town in Kanab, Utah. It is a very old barn according to the tour guides description and is located on one of the horse pastures at the Best Friends facility. The rock and trees made for a nice background. This was shot with the Canon 50D and was cropped quite a bit as shown in the second un-cropped image. Because of the large files on the 50D, cropping becomes a very viable option, especially for birding and similar subjects.

EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS at 17mm, 1/60 @ f/7.1, ISO 200.

How old is this barn?
I really can't give you an answer on that. I was busy trying to shoot through the window of a slowly moving van and only heard a reference to a "very old barn" being there when they took over the property. Sorry....

Oh snap!!

This makes about the 4th or 5th time I`ve been captured by the news media in recent months at random. I don`t know how the heck this happens!!!!
Before this inceident thay came up right behind me with the same size camera. I wasn`t aware of it until I looked down. I didn`t know what to think! I should have taken a photos of them (and will next time!!!). Look for me on your local world news sometime!!!! I`ll be on your TV set soon enough.
