Will BMW Bow Down To The NISSAN GTR???

Thats about it, I think, and by that it seems it has about as much in common with the M3 as it has with the Mercedes CL.

I know but what I wanted to point out is that it's more practical than the 911, Cayman, Viper and Z06.

Why would BMW bow down to the Nissan GTR?-Thats retarded. Not simply because the GTR is a LOW PRODUCTION CAR but more so because the GTR wont outsell or even come near M3 in sales. Any company can build a really fast car---koeniggsegg, ascari, Pagani, etc. However making a high productioini supercar is a completely different story. I'd be willing to guess that the GTR is not on a production line-and only a few thousand will be made-perhaps im wrong tho.

Oh yea, and making an M3 awd is the dumbest idea ever mentioned in these forums---anybody here could tell you that.

guys, according to a dyno of the GTR, its making 480 awhp. thats around 550-600 crank hp. this perfectly explains the 0-60 and 1/4 mile time and the Nring time that HvS got (7:50, which fits other cars in its weight and power catagory like the Murcielago, 599 and SLR).

before I was doubting that the car could do what they claimed with 473 hp, but it is doing them, just with maybe 100 more hp.

That makes perfect sense cause with "only" 480 HP I cant see how its possible to go from 0-100 km/h in 3,3 sec..at least with this car..:usa7uh:

If I were in the market for a GT car with the best available performance and few compromises on practicality, I don't see a better option than the GTR for less than 80K.

I'm sure the brand whores will still pick the Carreras and the M3's and that's cool too, but from what I've read on the cars in this segment at that price point, the GTR offers the sharpest dynamics even though it's a cow. Apparently it hides its heft well.

Either way, I'd take any of these cars, but I'd certainly take the GTR over the others. From what I've read so far, the car seems special. And that's coming from a DIE HARD M3 and 911 fan!!!!! :t-cheers:

GTR has got good reviews, good value, good performance but I'm not feeling the car, it doesnt exite me and not giving me any WoW feelings.
Women and cars have something in common. You don't live with a woman if you dont like her, you need feelings or attraction if you want to live with her. Feelings/attraction are very important when you are going to buy a car, particulary sportcars. As long as I miss those feelings for the GTR I can't buy it. Numbers on a paper is one thing but feelings are far more important.

The new Corvette ZR-1 is a more exciting product in my eyes and I would gladly pick it over a GTR.

I can't believe that the Evo review of the GTR hasnt been posted yet. Its a good one!

Strange thing is Evo have the same thing to say about the GTR as they have about the 135i that is tested in the same issue.

That's actually an excellent way to put it, and exactly why I prefer the GTR on paper (I haven't spent time in either). The ZR-1 is coming from a company governed by cost accountants trying to keep a sinking ship afloat. What's on the surface is glitter, but I know US auto business practice, parts are always sourced from the lowest bidder. All that glitters is not gold. The GTR has established itself as a legend in countries where it's not sold for a reason.

Just like a woman, a car's beauty fades. I said this already, I don't think the GTR is the sexiest thing, it's borderline ugly IMO, but it has soul. It's not pretentious. The skin of the Vette was penned by an Italian, but nothing else. As great as a performer as I think it is, I think it's shallowness will become evident over years of ownership as long as cost control supersedes passion. My $.02 :t-cheers:

The ZR1 is a bit different from other GM products though. The lowest bidders were:
Brembo
ALCOA (same supplier/partner to Audi and Ferrari)
Michelin
Delphi (same supplier/parter to Audi and Ferrari)
Eaton (same supplier to Mercedes)

You can't bow down to something that doesnt exist ;)

Considering Japanese Automakers' love for special edition cars, I'd say that the GT-R Nismo V-Spec is already underway...they might change the name but it'll essentially be the same thing.

To further that line of question; will the GT-R Nismo V-spec II bow down to the ZR-1 press cars? :D

True true, the press cars will magically be A LOT better, but that's the story of almost every automaker out there.

Absolutely, apart from the new M3 which seems to have improved a lot since the first press drives! :D

I personaly get more suspisious towards turbocharged - or supercharged for that matter - cars than towards naturally aspired.

If you are talking about the Top Gear article, they picked the GTR in almost every category didn't they? Besides:

Nurburgring times:
Porsche: 7.54 min (semi-R-tires)
GTR: Supposedly 7:38

Even if the conditions aren't the same, not same driver, extra equipment, blah blah... it's still a difference of 16 seconds.

While the GTR's forte is performance, it has all the luxury equipment that the 911 has I think. While the interior design is probably superior to the GTR, the GTR's interior is supposedly half way decent. Again, I figure that people don't want to compare it to a Porsche because of its badge and because of its ridiculous price.

lol. The porsche has done it in 7 mins 50 on semi racing tires and the tires that come with the GTR are regarded as semi racing by sport auto also so they both have done 7 mins 50 when independantly tested.

The GTR is no performance bargain of the year at all. For the money I could buy 2 seater cars that are truley fast and fearsome. Not some bloated 4wd car with alot of power and no steering feel.

I also heard the car has much more power than Nissan claims, so now I understand 3.3 sec to 60 and other stuff...

They used R&T methods to get their performance figures. If every other manufacturer did the same their vehicles would all of a sudden miracolously be alot faster than they were before.

R&T methods of testing are a unviable method of testing that will be impossible to replicate in real life.
