Why BMW should be afraid of Audi.

That first post sounds ignorant to me....:eusa_clap

1. BMW interiors are not cheap and souless. Plus, BMW makes far better seats and steering wheels than an Audi.

2. iDrive is just as complicated or easy as MMI. Maybe the older crowd should learn to except newer technology. How hard is it to navigate with one joystick anyway. Atleast you dont have to look down constantly to see what button to press like on the A6, A5, Q7...etc

3. What makes you think an Audi can handle better, when Mercedes cant even beat BMW.

4. Audi design is still lagging (speaking for the average person). Just look at the A4, A6, A8, Q7 compared to the competition. Yes, I know these are older models, but still......

so does this one :D

I believe that BMW doesn't have anything to worry about, however I think Audi is definitely catching up, but their brand still doesn't carry the weigh that BMW has behind it.

BMW pioneers a lot in engine development, especially with the alternative fuels, direct injection and the VANOS system(that im sure someone else knows many times more about than i do) only to name a few. That has won them lots of awards another thing that Audi doesn't really have

I don't agree with that. Audi A6 was "World Car of the year" a few years ago also and TT is among the finalists for this year , also if you check the Audi forum you will find dousins of awards Audi earned worldwide the past few years , quite possibly a lot more than BMW has won.

Yes, Audi did a quantum lap in terms of fit&finish quality. Audi cars have always been superb cars, yet that prestige feeling / quality was missing. And with current generation of cars Audi add the missing part.

It was a huge jump in Audi perception: they improved a lot. It appeared even more so due MB & BMW drop in fit&finish quality & reliability. Audi really took most possible advantage of MB & BMW troubles.

But ...

BMW was forced to cut development budget due Rover fiasco for all models that have begun development before year 2000 - and that resulted in "cheaper" interiors & less reliable cars due less testing. So, the first platform that started development after 2000 was E70 X5. And the improvement in quality & reliability is huge.

MB also had their own financial issues and cut costs in wrong place - resulting in worse quality & reliability.

Yet Both, MB & BMW, are getting better, stronger & starting to catch Audi in fit&finish field. And they will definitely catch (or even overtake) it completely in few years.

Audi should be the one to be worried. BMW & MB have still much more brand cache, and when they improve the products (already improving them) they will easily take the lead again - in quality & desirability.

But I'm glad all Big 3 are fighting - the benefit goes to the customers: getting better products.

Not to mention the all new marketing approach Audi is taking with the US market--realizing that it really is all about image and creating a lifestyle brand

I agree, Audi has really gotten aggressive with their marketing. Especially the Godfather one with the Benz grill on the bed. I see way more Audi commercials then BMW and Benz combined.

They have to. Audi has been a marketing brand since day one at VAG. With false history lessons.

Audi is definitely an improving brand in my view. Their cars, in general, are more desirable/sporty and the R8 has been a major success. In terms of prestige, also on the rise. In years past, I would not have considered buying an Audi instead of a BMW, but I will in the future. I like what they are doing recently and applaud their efforts.

Well what do the respective marketing departments sound like lately; "truth in engineering" and just plain "joy".....

So maybe the more appropriate title for this thread is: BMW should be afraid of Lexus.

And maybe Audi is aiming higher.:t-hands:

no one is afraid of lexus.

lexus doesnt sell well outside the US.

Well....competition makes the strong stronger...watch out! BMW is not resting on it's laurels. Going forward, with many new products on the horizon and taking into account the already superior F01 & F10 in their respective classes as well as techno i.e. efficient dynamics (what the world demands now) etc. BMW is a company who has to survive and broaden it's customer base whilst also has to keep up and above the competition....to those who think his is a battle BMW will just loose and give up on...THINK AGAIN!:eusa_thin

Hard times and competition can bring TOO MUCH good out of a Brand/Company, it's like driving a lion into a corner...beware of the consequences!:usa7uh:

Neither of the 3 German Luxury brands can afford resting on their laurels - and believe me (just compare BMW's newest offerings to the competition) BMW will not let their customer base down in future - logic business sense....

Still the biggest troll I see. 'lol'

M3 GTS is probably a better drive than any Porsche, including GT3. But whatever.
Back to your Seat, you! Shush!

A "troll" with nearly a thousand posts? Come on Klier, easy with name calling, your much more clever than that.;)

We all know your feelings in this debate (BMW vs. Audi), but when you start comparing BMW favorably to Porsche, your lose all credibility.

The problem, IMO, with audi is the shown with the R8. Audi fans love to mention it and it is truly a great car. It has done great things to the image of Audi and could have been a great stepping stone for audi ( the function of most supercars in these brands where the supercar is a niche ) It showed the sporty agressive way the audi design language could be translated into.

BUT, what did audi do? Nothing, Although the R8 is pretty, it wasn't all that radical to start with ( in terms of items that can be translated into lower-class cars ) and Audi didn't push things forward in newer cars afterwards ( like the A8 as latest proof ) The result is that the R8 is losing momentum ( normal evolution, no critique ) and Audi is left with nothing afterwards, nothing exciting coming out of the progress. A quality interior is all nice, but that was never the problem of audi. they were already known for that. Same goes for quattro. After al the excitement settles down, I fear this may appear a very nice blip in sales, but nothing more. A missed opportunity.
