Official Thread Toyota Gazoo Racing presents the world premiere of the GR GT and GR GT3

Personally, I think Toyota should have made this car a Lexus and developed it as a successor to the LFA while the upcoming LFA EV should be a Toyota to give them a big middle finger rival to some Chinese EV sports cars.

I am not really bowled over by the styling, the bonnet seems way too long, especially the front overhang and considering the engine is behind the front axle, there is massive useless space and weight ahead of the front axle. They could have shortened the front overhang by at least 10cm.

The rear air outlets are fake as the car is not mid engined (engine at back), but maybe could be used for aerodynamics or added downforce.

The mechanical details are very interesting, with the transaxle layout and the V8 pushed far back between the front axle and dashboard, this is really a front mid engine layout, similar to the previous AMG GT and SLS AMG. Double wishbone suspension and a rigid looking platform.

IMO the reason for the long front overhang is the flat radiator at the front and the enormous opening above it. This car is like the Ford GT it was designed for racing then made into a road legal vehicle.

The front oveerhang will be housing radiators.

The cooling ducts at the back are for the gearbox.

Remember folks what we are seeing is the base model, there will also be a track focused version with all the wings, splitters, more power plus increased price tag to play with the 911 GT3, they might even go nuts and price it like the Mustang GTD, Ford has sold them all. We might even get a roadster/convertible as well.

Akio Toyoda Regrets Lexus LFA’s Rarity, Says GR GT Will Be Different
The Drive
Toyota isn’t ready to talk volume or numbers yet, but the Toyota GR GT will not be doomed to the same fate as the iconic Lexus LFA.

On Thursday just outside Fuji, Japan at the automaker’s Woven City at the debut of the Toyota GR GT Project Manager Takashi Doi confirmed the GR GT will not be volume limited.

Doi said Chairman Akio Toyoda did not like that the LFA was so limited production. Lexus only built 500 LFAs.

The LFA was described as “out of reach of so many,” by Doi.

And while the LFA won some races in its class, that wasn’t enough for Toyoda, according to Doi.

The goal with the GR GT is to not only dominate on the track but also pass on the fun of driving, the passion, to future generations, according to Doi.

Doi said that the LFA’s price point was also a huge barrier to entry at around $375,000. While Toyota hasn’t released pricing and wouldn’t give a specific number for the GR GT, hints at a price in the neighborhood of $225,000 were dropped.

I love this car. After few days I am looking at her even with more enthusiasm. What makes me crazy is to imagine how low the pilot will feel sitting in this car. A Porsche Gt3 992 is very low and exactly arrives at 128 cm from the ground. Having driven that car for 2 years and half I cannot imagine what could mean to drive a car like this Toyota that sits almost 9 cm lower compared to the Gt3!
This will sure create a great handling...can't wait to find more about.

It is a pity that none of the invited YouTubers, was able to mention the RPM red line and none of them also mentioned the baggage compartment. Any of you does know anything more about these two details?

If she doesn't know she's not a keeper.
I think you will have already lost her the moment she asked about your car.

"See, 'Gazoo' actually started as an internal skunkworks project by the CEO, Akio Toyoda—his racing alias is Morizo, by the way—to reclaim Toyota's soul from the boring beige appliance era. It’s not just a trim level; it’s a full-blown homologation special with a G16E-GTS turbocharged triple and a Torsen limited-slip diff that basically means I can take corners at speeds that would literally liquefy a standard CVT transmission..............."

Kidding aside. I welcome a range of affordable sports car as the RS3 engine will be discontinued and next gen M3, C63 and RS3 will cost six figures.

I think you will have already lost her the moment she asked about your car.

Her: What car do you drive?
Me: A... wait... you don't recognise it from it's original BBS Style 216 rims and black mirror caps... I mean, are you even a touring car fan...?
Her: Errr...
Me: I'm sorry, I don't think this is going to work out.

What what can we expect from GR?
-A mix of cars that are:
-Badges Toyotas
-Bespoke cars

Like AMG? Will all engines be thoroughbred or might they also use bmw engines like with the supra?
