Report: Slow early sales have BMW thinking 5GT should've launched with six-cylinder

The 5GT is a nice practical high class family MPV but the price...seriously, is pretty insane.. it's too much more than a 5series touring... here in New Zealand, i don't even see a single one of these in the show room or outside the parking for demo, but it is for sale.

It's amazing how many people complain about the price compared to a 5 Series. The ethos of the car, the size, weight, interior luxury etc, all combine to make the most logical comparison the 7 Series. Then it starts to look like a bit of a bargain. Ignore the name "5GT". It's a 7 Series that's easier to park.

I suspect it's a slow seller here in SA. Human or anyone else can you corroborate?

And really, my neighbour... ditching the X6 for a 5er GT? Why? Do you need more luxury and comfort? [As if you haven't gotten enough already :) ] What about the sacrifice in ground clearance? Surely in your part of the world the added ride height is a bonus on all the dirt roads over there?

Yes, Martin sales are slow although all allocations (as BMW agents refer to how many of imported cars they get to sell locally) are full. Thus the order book to allocation ratio is full. BMW SA has one 535i GT driven by an exec that would be available for the dealers's Premium Selection sales in 2011.

Human - don't do that, please! :eusa_pray ;)

:t-cheers:

Seeing the GT IRL....man it has a presence and exclusiveness as well as an interior to die for....:)

^No doubt, but i wouldn't change X6 for 2 GTs...;) Rather change that X1 and put some dough and then take GT...:D

That's just me...:usa7uh:

Yeah, and Human likes the 5er GT a lot, and he already has an X6. You shouldn't have a problem with that, but it somehow looks like you have... ;)

I'd MAYBE take the 5er GT over X6 too, but then again, I'd never buy either, unless it's a second car or something. A 5er sedan is already on the gigantic side for me...But I sure can't blame all the people who do want one, because the GT is anawesome concept and very good looking to boot.

My opinion is a "problem"? Give me a break, please...:t-banghea

Nothing wrong of liking 5GT, i've just said that I wouldn't trade X6 for 5GT never.

:t-cheers:

I will rephrase. The X6 was and still is the most perfect car for my personal taste. I love coupe's and SAV's thus the X6 is a perfect car IMO.

And if you ask me what's BMW's best looker? Without a seconds doubt I will answer the new Z4!!!

This 50i is my second X6 and seeing a brand new (never seen before) BMW, in this case in time the GT....how can I explain....fresh, stunning too look at...when you open the doors with the frame less windows and that new interior greets you...when the car has a front stance and 'look' of an apex predator...the coupe like grace and that essence of F10 7er...then one starts to think like a boy looking at a poster of his favourite supercar;):D

^ Not to mention that the GT interior makes the X6 interior look like a Hyundai or something like that...

There is always a risk associated with bringing an unproven car concept to market, and I'm sure BMW were not oblivious to possible rejections by the public. If neccessary, BMW will subsidize any discounts neccessary to shift 5er GTs from showroom floors to people's driveways.

^Yes that one aswell.. Or no leave it alone..its such an unemotionall car that you dont even care to shoot it..atleast you can hate this one..thats a feeling..
1-0 for BMW i guess;)

PS
Sorry abt that post though..i just lost it.. cause i saw one a while ago on the road;)

I have only seen one in the UK so far, and the UK loves BMW.

There are 86 of them for sale on the Auto Trader and I have seen at least 15 of the bloody things on the road. They are hideous, but they have a neat boot lid, I'll concede that.
