I don't speak for everybody but with the two different 360s I've had, I haven't had a problem with either one of them. My first one I got the day they came out in November 2005. I had it for a year and a half and then sold it when I bought the Elite version of the 360.

Well not everyone has/had a problem with them. My has broken down, other members on this site has broken down. My friends' have broken down and the manager to game store where I buy my games from has had 5 breakdowns. The failure rate as it stands is 33% but the percentage affected by bad hardware design and lack of testing is 100%. It is a design flaw, so potentially all 360s so far are affected. So until they actually redesign the hardware the problem will exist. I'm not bashing the console, rather the company that made it.

Those graphics look amazing, I thought it was a photo at first!

Thanks for the replies and votes guys, and for those saying the Xbox is cheaper than the PS3, look at my sums, for what I want the PS3 is in fact the cheaper console!

I'll put it this way man. The initial buy-in price for the Xbox360 isn't bad. But the price to make it comparable to the PS3 (silly add ons like HD-DVD drive) makes the PS3 the best option. Honestly, if you want the full hi-def experience and some of the best franchises in gaming PS3 is good, but if you want mostly FPS and a unique game here or there the 360 is the best. It all comes down to what you want to do with your system.

For me personally, 95-98% of the games I want to play are on the PS3, plus it has built in memory card reader, blu-ray player, it's free to play games online wi-fi built in...all those things make the PS3 more appealing to me personally. All of those things are for 1 set price, I don't have to add sh!t on to my gaming device, plus there are more blu-ray movies and supporters than HD-DVD. It's a done deal.

Honestly, check out the games that are going to be coming out for both systems and what other kind of media you want (blu-ray or hd-dvd) and then decide. Don't listen to us...

I agree that the problem is excessive. I'm not absolving them of the problem. I'm just stating that I haven't had the problem.

However, there are things that people can do so alleviate some of the problems.

Don't put your 360 in an enclosed entertainment center. Put it in some wide open space. Also don't put the power brick on carpet. It needs to be on a hard wide open surface and not enclosed. These things can prevent the over heating problems.

Finally lay your 360 on it's side. Standing it up can lead to scratched discs.

What does FPS stand for?

The games I'm mostly into are racing games, and I have been told that the racing games on the Xbox aren't the real deal, when compared to the playstation games. I like shooting games, but not as much as racing.

I'm not really interested in if it's HD because my TV isn't HD ready, and I have no plans of upgrading it soon. That means I don't really care if it's blue-ray or HD-DVD, although this may mean something in the future!

omg omg omg omg all the games you show look so nice. TEH HARDCORE GRAFIX FOR THE WIN!!!

I am looking forward to Halo 3 a lot, that's why I bought a 360, but I still find Nintendo made games the best. Gameplay over graphics for me.

I prefer Mario Galaxy over everything on the Xbox 360, PC or PS3.

i got a wii because it was the cheapest and i don't play that many games. plus everyone likes to play the wii, even those who really suck at traditional games like my gf.

btw, Resident Evil 4 for the Wii is one of the best games i've ever played. the learning curve for the controls is a bit steep at first but after you get used to it the wii style of gameplay really immerses you into the storyline. can't wait for the wii zapper to come out. Here's a preview:

up to 32 player multiplayer mode!

oh and there is wii fit, maybe i'll get this for my mom or something...unless they come out with some fps games with it.

but if you're more into traditional gaming get a xbox 360 or a ps3, some of the ps3 graphics are really cutting edge. plus blu ray and all that other fancy computing power.

as artist pointed out, it's First Person Shooter, which are usually better on the PC than consoles anyway.

If you like racing, then PS3 is the way to go, IMO. There is no game on the console out there that can even touch Gran Turismo. I know some people are going to bring in PGR (project gotham), but please, that is Microsoft's rip-off of Gran Turismo which still isn't as good. All the Need for Speed games are going to be on the both system so that doesn't matter. GT5 over PGR4 any day.

As for Blu-ray vs. Hd-DVd. More retailers are stocking blu-ray than DVD because Blu-ray's have been selling 3:1 for a while now. And I think a couple retailers in the UK have officially started carrying only Blu-ray and no HD-dvd. Just a heads up for when you or your folks decide to buy into the "HD" craze.

That just shows how what type of games one likes should decide what system you get. Klier, like a lot people love the Mario games so the Wii is a must have for those people. Me personally I don't like any of the Mario games. Going all the way back to Donkey Kong I haven't liked any of them.

I also agree that Gran Turismo is the best racing series out there and Gran Turismo 5 should be no exception. I'll get a PS3 for both GT5 and Killzone 2. However Forza Motorsports 2 is a good driving game. The graphics aren't the best but the game does play at a smooth 60 fps. I like FM2 better than the PGR series (I've owned both the 2nd and 3rd version of PGR) because the driving is more realistic. The PGR series is more arcade than sim.

I had all 3 of the previous gen systems. Once I get a PS3, I'll have all 3 of the current generation. I still have a PS2 but only my daughters play that. Got rid of the original Xbox. Once I got the Wii I gave away the Gamecube since the Wii is fully backwards compatible (including 4 ports for Gamecube controllers) with Gamecube games.

I haven't yet got a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player. I haven't spent the $200 for the 360's HD-DVD drive. I've been waiting to see who wins the battle but I do think Blu-ray will win the battle. Having a Blu-ray player in the PS3 has been the deciding factor so far in my opinion.

However, there was a rumor that Wal-Mart was working to have a Chinese company make a low cost HD-DVD player for sale by this Christmas. If that happens that will give HD-DVD a tremendous boost since Wal-Mart is by far the biggest seller of DVDs in the world.

Yupp the big boys will be deciding the war. So far Bluray has big advantage since Blockbuster a few months ago announced that they will be backing up Bluray. Microsoft made a brilliant decision not settle for either of the formats. If Bluray win the future Xbox 360s will be featuring built in bluray drives, and the same will be done if HD-DVD wins the war. In the mean time MS will be offering a HD-DVD to fight against Sony while waiting for the war to end.

Further more the add-on HD-DVD player together with a premium 360 doesn't cost more than a PS3. So MS have been clever not to include a built in HD-DVD player and forcing customers to buy something they aren't ready to use yet.

Yeah the Forza 2 graphics are a bit disapointing. I have a few in-game HD videos on my computer and the level of detail on the cars are not that satisfying. Despite that the Forxa series is great. I have Forza 1 and I love the ability to be ability to adjust the cars four wheel drive system to under steer more and to configurate the engine for better acceleration, simply setting the car to suit my driving. It's very technical and I love it.

I have PGR1 and PGR2. After a few minutes of game play I instantly fell in love with the first game since there is nothing out there like the PGR series. Personally the first game was better than the second even though the second game featured more cars and had much more detailed graphics.

Overall I prefer the PGR series over Forza. The game play is much more relaxed, has more lively steering and is rewarding, especially when drifting though corners hearing the kudos stacking up. Everything is constantly used, the gas, brakes and even the hand brake. Superb game. Hopefully the fourth game will be awesome.

The only Game which would make me buy Wii the Mario Kart. Mario Kart kicked ass on all the previous Nintendo consoles. I just love it.

Since I'm a huge PC fan, I would suggest you to update your PC hardware. You will get the best graphics out of any console and more than that, it's way more fun to play on a PC. :t-cheers:

I disagree. Console offer best graphics at the lowest price. Games for 360 and PS3 are 100% optimized for the respective console. Bugs are rare and the games flow on without any annoying lag. BTW good lucky with building a PC which can spit out the same graphics like an 360 or PS3. It will cost you 6-10 ten times as a 360.

I'm a PC fan as well and play counter strike source and C&C 3 regularly. FSP and strategic games are best played on PC but nothing beats sitting in front a TV screaming and yelled with a couple of buddies holding xbox controllers.

Nope, that was debunked. That was a rumor that started off which had nothing to do with HD-DVD or Blu-ray. It was some company in china that said that it might get a contract from Wal-mart for a cheap hi-def player. They never mentioned what drive it will be for.

And truly, I think Walmart would choose blu-ray because 1. it has the most studio support and 2. It has Disney exclusively. Wal-mart caters to a lot of the disney crowd so I don't think they will choose a format that does not have disney.

Blockbuster has already chosen to carry blu-ray in their stores and if I remember correctly, retailers in Australia have chosen to carry blu-ray exclusively. Honestly, it comes down to studio support which blu-ray has the most.

Looks like most of you are Xbox fans!

I think I'll have another look at the reviews and try and make my mind up, but I'm sure what ever console I end up with, it will have great games that I will enjoy playing!

I think the winner may come down to if Wal-Mart does support one format over the other. Right now Wal-Mart doesn't carry either. Because of Disney, Wal-Mart may go Blu-Ray. However, if Wal-Mart does go HD-DVD, it won't matter what other retail stores do. Wal-Mart dominates other stores when it comes to DVD sales. For example Wal-Mart has 37% of all DVD sales compared to Blockbuster's 6%. Ultimately IMO, Wal-Mart will decide the winner, not other smaller stores.

Wal-Mart is runaway leader in DVD DSN Retailing Today - Find Articles

Everyone knows Wal-Mart is the biggest DVD retailer in the country, but a new tracking service shows its market share is even larger than most people thought and hits nearly 50% on some titles.

According to the NPD Group's new VideoWatch video tracking service, Wal-Mart accounts for 37% of all new DVD purchases in the United States, much higher than the 25% to 30% that most analysts estimate. Best Buy comes in a distant second with 13% of the market and Blockbuster is in third with 6%. Rounding out the top retailers are Costco, Target and Circuit City who combine for 13% of the market.

The report notes that, not surprisingly, the leading DVD retailers are the ones that offer the lowest prices. The price of a DVD at the top five retailers averages $15.41, which is 11% below the overall average.

Rather than rely on point-of-sale information, which most retailers don't want to share, the NPD Group is using information on video purchasers culled from surveys of more than 3,000 consumers each week. That information is pooled to keep track of where consumers make their DVD buys each month and what titles they're buying.

"We believe [VideoWatch] will be a benchmark for consumer information about specific video titles, retailers and genres," said Russ Crupnick, vp of The NPD Group.

VideoWatch also focuses on where consumers make their buys on specific titles. It notes that nearly 50% of all copies of the Eddie Murphy comedy "The Haunted Mansion from Disney" were rung up at Wal-Mart stores, as were 39% of all titles produced by Walt Disney Studios.

If Blu-Ray does win (clearly they are winning at this point) I'd bet that Microsoft will quickly get a Blu-Ray player add-on for the 360 similar to the HD-DVD add-on player they have now. The Xbox 360 Elite already has HDMI support which is needed for Blu-Ray.
