My family owns a 2011 W221. A while ago the electric boot failed and there we sent the car to the dealer. They proposed to order parts from Germany for $2500 USD. We thought it was outrageous, it sounds like the motor works just that it didn't drive the boot.

We went to a local shop specialized in MB to get it fixed for merely $70 approx. Another two week gone by the problem came back, so the shop proposed to change the part as well. Lots of stuff, including rear seats, speakers had to be disassembled from the car in order to do so.
They suspect the part was poorly designed as it is too weak to support the apparently heavy lid.

What do you think?

What about warranty? Dealer must repear your car for free.

Yeah what about the warranty? Isn't it 3 years minimum?

If it was poorly designed the issue would be widely reported. Also the boot lid is aluminium is it not? hardly heavy.

Could be out of miles... 2011 with over 50K miles is a lot though...

somehow the dealer is under the control of a British conglomerate, they offer only 2 yrs warranty.
