C-Class W205 w205 vs w221?

The Mercedes-Benz W205 is the fourth generation of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class which was produced by Daimler AG between 2014 and 2021. The W205 C-Class was preceded by the W204 C-Class and superseded by the W206 C-Class. The fourth-generation C-Class was available in sedan (W205), station wagon/estate (S205), coupe (C205), cabriolet (A205) and long-wheelbase sedan (V205) body styles.

I posted this over in the C forum, but want some opinions of an S owner as well.

Here's the background. I had a W222 on order but decided to try and start a side business. Now I've used the cash for the business, instead of the car. Which leads me to my predicament, I like the new tech of the baby s-class, but also like a big cushy ride of an S class. Currently I'm in a 2013 S8 which I'll be selling and using most of the proceeds for the business.

Naturally I haven't been able to find any comparisons of the two models I'm considering, so want to turn to the forums. Has anyone owned both, or driven both closely together? I'd like to stay at or around $45k which puts me in a almost base new C with a package or 2, it puts me into a nicely loaded used S class with 40kish miles.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hi I have both at home ...The W221 though we have is 2006 a amazing car still after 8 years no problems at all.The tech obviously on mine is bit dated compared to a W205..In terms of drive and luxury you can not even compare the W221 is the king all the way.

Personally I feel the W 205 is a excellent car also the advantage would be the motorplan on a new car.I am not sure which year W211 you looking at..They both great cars yet very different so I think you need to see closely what your exact needs are.good luck in your choice and good luck in your business.

It depends on the tax structure of the country you live in. I would pick the used w221 over the w205 ceteris paribus as the s class is a far superior car to the c class

I'd say go for the W221 all day, every day. The new C-Class is nice, but in no way could it compare to the W221. Repairs and maintenance will naturally be more than the C-Class, but this is to be expected and I am sure you probably have no issue, especially coming from an S8. I've had multiple W205 loaners, and I hated the car every second I drove it. Although solid, the W205 gave no real sense of security, opposed to the tank-like bulletproof sensation my S550 gives me. The car isn't necessarily quick but I was actually surprised at how responsive the 4-Cylinder engine was. Not surprisingly, the W205 has steering that has more feel than the W221; I could drive my S550 with one finger. The loaner W205s I drove (w/o Airmatic) had a surprisingly good suspension set up, and was well dampened (which undoubtedly adds to the solid feeling). Despite the 20 inch AMG wheels and low profiles, my W221 has a far superior ride, not even able to compare the two. The W205 rides like how I imagine a Honda or Toyota would ride like and the S550 firmly glides down the street as if it is paved with smooth glass. In the end, the C300 made me appreciate my car so much more. This is ultimately your decision and money, but there is absolutely nothing like a big body Benz!

Perhaps I am biased, but I firmly believe the W221 looks far better than the current S-Class competition today and still looks as modern as the mighty W222.
