"In early November, we told you about a report in WhatCar? magazine suggesting Volvo was developing a dual-clutch transmission that would eventually find its way into all Ford vehicles. At the time, it seemed this project was in an early stage, probably several years away from production.

Not so, says Automotive News Europe. According to the industry newspaper, Volvo will begin offering DSG in diesel versions its S40 and V50 in late 2007. The introduction of the gearbox will coincide with a mid-cycle facelift of the sedan and wagon.

Ford sources say the transmissions will later be spread across the majority of Ford, Volvo, Land Rover, and Mazda models. The dual-clutch system will eventually replace all CVT and automatics transmissions."

Sweden rules beat the old germans

Exactly! I've heard that it is much simplier to use than the competing transmissions used in German cars. For example it will have only two gear options, H (for Hem/Home) and B (for Bort/Away). :D

This is great news. I see that Volvo is gonna be great the years to come. Not only they added new models and improved their designs, they also added a V8 and now a Dual Clutch gearbox. I'm proud to have a Volvo :D

It sounds just like the VW version. Is there a patent that VW made?

VW patent.
What are you talking about ?!
VW never invented or co-developed dual-clutches. That credit goes to frenchman Andre Kegresse, who invented the dual clutch 70 years ago for Citroen (who were the first to put them on their cars about 60 years ago, on a few demonstrative models since the solution viable untill recently).

Thanks for the info. :t-cheers:

Who cares? I know BMW's will be better...:D
:t-cheers:

Yeah I'm thinking that BMW, Mercedes and Porsche are going to do the usual German one-upmanship thing with their respective boxes. Knowing Mercedes theirs will have 10 gears, knowing BMW theirs will have 20 different modes (from compeition to grandma) and Porsches will be the simplest and likely the best overall.
