O.K., a far more realistic ten car list.
1. Alpina B6 3.5 S ( E30 ///M3 )
2. Alpina RLE ( Roadster Limited Edition, Z1 )
3. Alpina B12 6.0 E-Kat ( E38 750i )
4. Alpina B6 BiTurbo ( F12 )

5. Alpina B3 BiTurbo ( F31, with xDrive if available in conjunction with RHD )
6. Porsche 911 GT3 RS ( 997 )
7. Ferrari 458 Spyder
8. LR Range Rover SDV8
9. BMW ///M3 CSL
10. McLaren F1

BOLD indicates what I'd have if restrained to 4 cars.

Alpina B3 Biturbo xDrive F31 doesn't exist yet. :D

But nice choice. BMW Alpina as DD, BMW M as WE. Probably best of both worlds.

I think everyone's list will need an update after the S is shown and the NYC and Shanghai auto shows commence.

M

I was thinking how between LaFerrai, GT3 and S class, you don't need another car. And then I thought about how to get the number even lower and it stuck me - P1 and RS6. Yea, the first list is more baller but the sheer versatility of the 2nd list appels to me. Happy dreams to myself, cya guys tomorrow :)

The Ultimate "El-Cheapo" Double Garage:

New Range Rover Sport - Family + Lifestyle vehicle
BMW M135i - Usefully quick, decently engaging, more than able daily driver

The Ultimate "Mid-life Crisis" Three Car Garage:

Porsche Cayenne Diesel S - Whooshing the family away with alacrity
Golf 7 GTI - Little "city runabout". Heh heh...
Porsche Boxster S / Cayman S - Sportingly sporty for the weekend

The Ultimate "Modest" Four Car Garage:

Ferrari LaFerrari - What more could there possibly be?
Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 - The last of the breed; the collectable - good for keeping manual tranny skills sharply honed
Mercedes Benz W222 S Class - Yip, that'll do for the daily grind
Range Rover - Go anywhere ability for family getaways...

The Ultimate "Go-Big-or-Go-Home" Eight Car Garage:

Ferrari LaFerrari - See above...
Porsche GT3 RS 4.0 - and again...
Mercedes Benz W222 S Class - this one too...
Range Rover - getting a bit unoriginal now...
McLaren 12C Spider - the comfortable on any blacktop, roof-dropping, grand-touring supercar
Mercedes Benz G63 AMG 6x6 - The daddy of off-roaders, socially reproachable and about as green as a severed artery; a must-have
BMW 1M Coupé - Collectable to buy, delectable to drive
Lexus LFA - Gotta have a naturally aspirated V10 in there somewhere - this one's the best ever...

I like what Martinbo did there. I think I'll do the same.

The Ultimate "El-Cheapo" Garage:
Lexus IS
Alfa Romeo 4C

The Ultimate "VAG" Garage: (did I say VAG?)
Audi RS6
Porsche 911 GT3

The Ultimate "Beauty" Garage:

Maserati GTS

The Ultimate "State of the Art" Garage:
Lexus LFA
Pagani Huayra

The Ultimate "Crème de la Crème" Garage:
Mercedes S AMG
Ferrari LaFerrari

If not, keeping Update 03/2013 with:
BMW 750xd
Lexus LFA

^Man, you sure are a big Audi fan :D

Well there's the dream world (this) and then there's the real world. In the latter certain Audis feature much higher up in my decision criteria.

No. 1 on my list is a the Q5 2.0T quattro. This has a high likelihood of replacing our Forester because of its exceptional build quality, good ground clearance, family-oriented space and versatility, lifestyle suitability etc.
I think the new A3 Sportback 1.8T S-Line is just about the most complete all day, every day, income-earning (i.e. something that takes you around on business) car on the market. It is only bested by the BMW 320d in this respect I reckon.

I think the Audi S4 is one of the few "only" cars I would consider spending such a sum of money on. A very complete all-rounder. Same goes for the S5 Sportback. The Audi A7 and S7 are monumentally fine purchases in my eyes too - I love the way they look.

The R8 is still one of the very finest entry-level supercars around and if I had the money would quite likely buy one - an R8 V8 Spyder. A dream car for me.

I passed up on buying a B7 RS4 with less than 60,000 km some years ago for an excellent price - I regret not having bought the car in hindsight. It, for me, is not just a pinnacle Audi; it's a pinnacle sporting saloon. Love it.

So, fear not, when the real-world chips are down, many an Audi comes into the picture.

I'll play.

Mercedes S 63 AMG-S 4-Matic - daily driver (v222)
Ferrari LaFerrari - for... well, for those days where instead of visiting an art gallery, I go and sit on the garage)

And when it makes it into production:
Mercedes SLC top spec, 4-matic

I have simple needs.

I think it would be the perfect car for you. Myself I was never a big fan of the Q5, until I got a big chance to buy one that was almost new, for great money, and I didnt hesitate. I boy was that one of my best choices I've ever made. The car is really amazing both in and out. I love everything about it, and my ultimate dreamcar now is not an Audi R8. It's a SQ5. That's how much I have fallen for this SUV from Audi. (Note that I hate the Q3 and the Q7 is just a big bus)
