Ultimate Coupe Showdown!

No it won't! 4 doors, 4 doors Amen!

:t-cheers:

Put 4 doors on a 6-serie and it still a Coupe. I dont care if the car has 1 or 10 doors as long as the car share qualities from a Coupé . That a Coupe only can have two doors to be a Coupe, that was a long time ago. Its time for some of you to be modern. Stop being so conservative :D

That is ridiculous - I know I already said I don't want to argue about this, but now I'm really curious - what do you think a coupe (coupé) actually is? - how would you define a coupe?

Yeah, i'd like to here that as well from this crazy Swede... ;)

The look, the shape, lower center of gravity than Sedan versions, worse backseat and higher price than Sedan versions. Thats all I can think of right now but mainly I judge a car by the shape and not but the doors. My Mazda I owned like 10 years ago, only had 2-doors but it wasnt a Coupe. As you can see, I don't define a Coupe by the doors - I did it many years ago now Im more open-minded. :eusa_danc

I know Im just another crazy swede but that my friend is my new defintion of a Coupé ;)

Now hit me, Im waiting a full attack where people tell me Im wrong. Be my guest :)

My opinion is that a coupe normally has two doors but some cars can still be considered as coupes even with 4 doors like the Mazda RX8. CLS is something between a sedan and a coupe.

What about the Porsche Carrera 4S or Mercedes SL55 or SL600?
Why weren't they included? Price wise they are in range, category-wise they go well with the Maser (SL, Porsche), performance-wise they go with the M6 (Porsche C4S..).. what do you think?

worse backseat

I'd really like to know what do you mean with that? "worse backseat"... You mean smaller back seats... Less space? What?

And btw, lower center of gravity doesn't make a car coupe... Hell, even the A8 has a very low center of gravity if compared with S and 7er...... Is it a coupe? You tell me, Swede... ;)

Haha! Gotta love the marketing geniuses at MB! They really stirred up the awareness of this car by calling it a 'Coupé'. If I recall well, the word 'coupé' is french and means 'cut or half-compartment' which is derived from the chopped off (cut) horse carriages, predating our beloved Horseless CARriageS ;) ; the entire back sections (including the back seat) were chopped off and left with just the front seat, they were a lot lighter and used for different applications, including racing!

I mentioned this before, I will quote the Wall Street Journal again on its review of the CLS.... "Mercedes calls it a 4-door coupe. Translation: A sedan with cramped back seats" :D

like Yannis said, I feel the CLS to be both a Coupe and a Sedan. There are no more to add really. We arent on the same page, that it :usa7uh: If it makes you guys feel better, continue throwing pies in my face but I said mine already.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in a long time. I don't know why a CLS is a coupe. A car with 4 doors cannot be a COUPE! That's like calling a car with a fixed roof a Convertible! It doesn't make any sense at all.

Here's the definition of a Coupe from dictionary.com:
1. closed four-wheel carriage with two seats inside and one outside.
2. also coupe (kp) A closed two-door automobile.

Unlike some of you guys, I will take this to my grave. You could not convince me that a CLS is a coupe... because it is a SEDAN. let the arguments begin.

P.S. Where's the Porsche 911? Because that is the ultimate Coupe... followed by the M6.
