Audi tried to be "funky" with the A2, but they failed miserably.

It's a German Pontiac Aztek.

A2, Previous A6,TT
Q7...
and almost every pre 97 audi..haha:D

I am no Audi specialist, so I don't know the older models.

I find the A2 very cool, I like its design a lot. Really a lot. Fresh, young, but still very Audi.

Unfortunately it makes more noise than a tractor, does not go significantly faster, has a chassis who does not know what the word "rigidity" means, has the worst traction you can imagine and does not like side-wind at all...

For me the previous A6, the A6 C5, is one of the worst-looking car I've ever seen from a premium carmaker. It is just awful.

It is a dripping car (hope it is the right word, for a car that seems to melt)... Disgusting.

A6 C5? Oh come one guys... it ain't that bad.

OK so the base models had a cheap looking black plastic clad around the bumpers, but the lines were so nicely sculpted and how can you forget the RS6?

However, here's the best example that Aerodynamic and Modern not always equals Beautiful.

This was a modern looking car back then, it even influenced Ford with the original Taurus. With an drag coefficient of 0,30 it's also very aerodynamic even for today standards.

All things considered, however, look at that picture above and tell me if you have ever, in all of your life, seen anything quite so ugly?

Might I suggest to keep your barf bag handy, because, here is the Avant version...

And to think that Audi started with that ugly lump and nowadays the current A6 Avant is by far and away the best looking Estate car ever made (IMO at least).

We had a 100 when I got my license. Never had any problems with the look of the thing.

This old generation A4 Cabriolet

Previous generation A6 & Allroad (hated the trunk and the circled part):

Gotta agree with you on the C5 A6, Mikael. I always thought that the rear-end (particulary that on the sedan) was just terrible.

Thanks, Bruce! It's a shame really. :eusa_doh:Other than that it was a very nice car.

I agree, we have a c5 a6 avant. but the one thing i hate sooo much on the a6's is the plastic black strip all along the bottom on the bumper. I really think it looks awful, and it stands out more when you have a lighter color Audi.

That's not an A4, it's a first generation Cabriolet based on the B4 80 platform. Highly desirable and sought-after here in the UK, with rock solid residuals. Personally I think the looks have aged very well (unlike most of its competitors). :usa7uh:

Fortunately Audi painted the bottom on the bumper, when the A6 got a facelift and it got nicer headlamp wash system. The old seemed false like an aftermarket kit. Nevertheless the A6 C5 was one of the first Audis that I really liked. One of our professors is driving a facelifted A6 3.0 Quattro Limousine and it looks awesome!

Some A2's are not that bad actually, look at this one

The idea of the A2 was great... "form follows function" ...and in my opinion the front isn't really a problem! But the design of the rear is unsuccessful. :usa7uh:

Thats weird, We have a 2002 a6 1.8t Quattro, and its not got any head lamp washer or even the Quattro badge on the grill. I think it was had a crash in its lift time and the dealer ship who we bought it off have just put another bumper on it, because its a darker gray than the whole car and theres a dent on the bonnet:t-hands: what do you think?

The headlamp wash system is standard, when your car has Xenon/Bi-Xenon headlights. An operation of Xenonlights without headlamp wash and automatic headlamp beam height control is illegal here in germany.

So, when your car doesn't have Xenon headlights it's normal, that your car doesn't have a head lamp wash system.
The missing Quattro badge - I don't know... :t-cheers:

I think some people are viewing these cars from today's standards, like the 100 and the Audi 80 cabrio. The A6 rear was prety ugly, but some of these older cars looked very good in their day. The 5000 was the most aerodynamic car of its time and looking at it now, sure wasn't the greatest design but then was very attractive.

One of my former rides was the last-gen A6 (4B) as a 2.8 Quattro model. Painted black and equipped with Remus sports exhausts, the rear was okay. Still liked it - but the quality was lousy.

IMO the ugliest audi ever produced was the Audi 50:

Hmmm... I'm not one of them.

The old 100 c3 was an ugly car in its day, specially when compared to the similar era 5-Series E34, E-Class W124 and Saab 9000.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
