Vs Top Gear M3 vs C63 vs RS4

Vehicle comparisons, matchups, debates, performance battles, and head-to-head discussions.
Almost 5 seconds faster???? Another convincing victory for the M3 over the C63. So now the M3 rides better than the C63 on bumpy everyday roads AND it totally kicks butt on a track. What else can you ask for? The M3 sedan will be awesome.

Sure, the C63 will win drag races on the road, but I've come to appreciate driving fast on a track more and more.

Well that was a small track,on a larger tracks the diff will be smaller no doubt and the M3 sedan won't be have that CF roof so losing the center of gravity advantage.I think it'll be closer with the M3 sedan than the coupe.

This is very true! The M3 is the natural choice for the driver who seeks the most rewarding driving dynamics in the class. Maybe the C63 desperately needs the sport package to get its balance (and pace) but then it will even further compromise its on-the-road capabilities. It will for sure make it quicker on track but im guessing (judging from the first Evo review when the C63 was presented - the journalists got to drive a non sport package car on ordinary roads and a sport package car on track) that it then will border on the level of hardcore represented by the previous generation CSL and that will not be too popular with expecially English magazines like Evo who find ordinary road capabilities very important.

Edit: I did not mean to say the C63 was a bad car in any way, just that it - thank god - is different from the M3.

I'm doubtful that the performance pack can change the nature of the C63. The masculine steering wheel, aggressive DTM styling tells the story. MB wanted the C63 to be a small car with a big V8 and four wheels, simple and brutal without any advanced gizmos. Same old story with the Z4 and Boxster, one is wild and the other one precise Boxster. The reason why the C63 went around the track faster than the M3 is because it isn't able to get 100% of all the power coming from the meaty engine, down to the ground, much of it is lost in tire spin.
Neither of all three cars has a major advantage over the others. They are like peaches, apricot and plumbs. There's one for everyone.

The CF roof won't make that big of a difference. It sure as hell won't lose 5 seconds because of the non CF roof. But I agree, in a track like the Nurburgring, the difference should be less than that.

You are right, but u know things like having lighter wieght, coupe and CF roof does it's miracle around a track:usa7uh:

On the street, yes, but on track, looks like M3 has a big advantage over the other 2.

Yeah as far as track driving goes the M3 is the best and probably most enjoyable to drive around a circuit since it it allow you to have 100% control over the way the car drives.

Only thing left to be seen is the Super test ring time, where I expect the AMG to have an advantage due the track's high speed nature.

I think so too, on high speed tracks the C63 will have better chance against the M3 but om smaller tracks the M3 will have the advantage , sure there might be some exceptions but mostly, the agiler M3 will have a better chance on smaller tracks.

But in real life in the hands of average drivers it might be easier to be faster in a C63 due of automatic and torgue engine, same goes for RS4 thanks to the safe Quattro system but it doesnt mean they will be more fun to drive. But if you are really good driver the M3 will be the better tracktool.

When I testdrove the new M3 you really felt that that the car has a great balance and it was easy to control. It felt like it was a easier car to drive fast with than previous M3 E46. I think the new will be M3 a better car in the hands of an average driver than last M3.

But Nurburgring ain't a high speed track. It's a combined track.

its mostly a high speed track and its higher speeds than on Hockenheim and its also larger track and Bedford therefore C63 will have better chance on N-ring.

Not every track;), besides the street is always where those cars will meet each other.

Bingo! :usa7uh:

Personally I'd be happy with anyone of these cars.

I can't wait for a quadruple test involving the Lexus IS-F. 2008 better bring good stuff. :D

Very awesomme test.. love all 3 cars..

but the C63 is just insane..and me likes insane:D

I really like the way how the C63 looks sounds and go's.

Would love to see a test between these cars and a UK spec hyper Evo and see the outcome off and on the track.

FQ340 would eat them alive so becuase Evo are much lighter cars than the fat germans.

Well said. For the Clarksons and Mays of this world an M3 is the right car , for the rest of us an RS4 or C63 might be a better choice.:D

No, because I can have fun with a M3 as well. The car is so freaking well-balanced and is easy to control when you drive it on the streets. I loved every minute I drove the M3 and I'm one of those average drivers.
