U.S. sales of the BMW X5 tumbled 54% in July 2016, the worst year-over-year percentage decline of any vehicle which attracted at least 2500 buyers last month.

The discontinued Chrysler Town & Country, soon-to-be-defunct Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart, and slow-launching Chevrolet Cruze accounted for the bulk of the sharpest declines among relatively popular new vehicles.

U.S. Vehicle Sales Rankings By Model - July 2016 YTD

The replacement phase of the GMC Acadia is partly to blame for the big crossover's 30% drop. Chevrolet Camaro volume tumbled 26%, the Camaro's third consecutive harsh decline in prime muscle car buying season. Also in the top 20 were midsize sedans from Nissan, Chevrolet, and Kia, small cars from Ford and Volkswagen, and two premium Japanese sedans.

The means by which GCBC tabulates America's worst-selling new vehicles are three-fold. The traditional formats are below.

The X5 had traditionally been a big seller n the States....wonder what causes the disastrous sales trend we see

So, a model selling just under 3.000 is the worst sellling one in the country? Says a bit about the size of the market - and I presume only high-volume manufacturers are accounted for.

Mercedes core brand in the US YTD is 219,704 down 0.5% vs 2015
BMW core brand in the US YTD is 204, 744 down 8.3%
Audi in the US YTD is 134,562 up 3.5%.
Of the three brands BMW is the worst performing one.

28,404 Mercedes-Benz cars were sold in August in the United States of America, marking a 0.1% increase from the figure achieved in August 2015. Mercedes-Benz Vans reported best-ever August sales as well, with a 39.5% growth, up to 3,152 units. The numbers all add up to 31,909 vehicles sold in 31 days.

The total figure is equivalent to a 2.1% increase from last year. On a year-to-date basis, Mercedes-Benz retails totaled 219,704. Adding year-to-date-sales of 22,186 for Vans and 3,439 for smart, MBUSA posted a grand total of 245,329 units in August, increasing 0.7% from the previous year.

“We are on track for a strong finish to the third quarter, fueled by a best-ever result for August,” said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA. “Demand remains high for our SUVs and dream cars such as the new SL and S-Class Cabriolet, and we expect to build upon this momentum in the coming months.”

The models selling best in August are the C-Class with 6,125 units, the E-Class with 5,059 and the GLC models at 4,715 cars.

1,621 lucky customers got their hands on their brand-new AMG vehicles, up by 17.5% compared to last year, taking the year-to-date sales figures to 14,131 sold.

Is there a way to post the sales number in a table format so that it won't occupy so much space?

The S Cabriolet is selling like hotcakes here, very pricey hotcakes and surprisingly so is the SL. There is room for both in the lineup it seems. All the SL needs is a new look, but the FL is working so far. The word is out and the thrill is gone for the CLA and GLA. They aren't real Mercedes' and IMO a lot of people know it now. Look at the CLA to C and GLA to GLC, almost night and day differences in build and overall substance. The CLA and especially GLA should be tearing the sales charts apart, but they aren't. MBUSA is so ashamed of the CLS' sales that they're now combining them with the E-Class' sales. Hilarious.
