Things we dislike in modern car design!

Modern, clean, sharp, low, rwd, mid-engined (albeit a 1.4 but you can't see the engine from here), etc. so yes it can be done. But you can't buy that I hear you cry, well not my fault vw is clever enough to build it but not clever enough to sell it. And yes it would pass all regs (except the "hit by ugly stick" reg) some manufacturers seem to adhere to lately (not calling any names)
How are you sure it would pass all regs in its current concept form?

BTW, I like what you did there (post a picture from an angle that would diminish its obviously huge wheels). ;)

This VW concept is a mini R8 in my eyes. It has the super car characteristics but won't cost even half the price of the R8. If they decide to build it, it will be the only alternative to the Boxster and for sure will steal sales from it but I couldn't care less as I'm a huge fan of both cars :)

Guibo, don't bother, he excels at the art of trolling. I mean, comparing a hatchback to a concept car (and a mid engine one)

Why don't we put a VW Scirocco next to the Megane and start comparing waist line, back visibility, "bloated body", etc, etc

in today's cars one can no longer see where to front or rear end lie even in smaller cars. most people now rely on sensors and camera's to park

as it has been stated before, pedestrian regulations are killing car design in general, dumbo ear mirrors are ugly, and everything becoming electric (throttle, steering etc) is removing driver involvement.

I'm sure of it. See 991 nose plus no engine block for your soft skull to land on.
You can clearly see the massive bling bling wheels in the pic (it's a concept car what did you expect 16" alloy wheels?, it's for shock & awe value, production will be different). I only posted this picture because I like the interior as much as I like the exterior, both important aspects more so in a roadster.

You are not wrong. Side on the r8 the vw share the same flancs. I'm a fan of all three, vw, boxter, r8. As I can only afford a used 987 I'd pick the vw over it in a heart beat as I'm a sucker for new stuff. (although I'd get a used and abused r8 over both of them)

That one went right over your head, didn't it? Again. As will this:

No, you're not sure of it. Concept cars get watered down and compromised all the time. By your own admission, the production will be different, so
The point is you're comparing concept cars for which we have little data about conformity to regs vs production cars which for sure have been homologated for road use and deemed properly safe and efficient.
But your post had nothing to do with the interior. You were talking about proportions, waistlines, wheel sizes, etc.

Yo q5s, what's with the attitude? Rather don't post if you're going to be contemptuous. And putting up a picture-comparison of a Veyron interior vs 3er - I must enquire as to what your logic is?

Hoh at the E class coupe you can choose the optional fog lights or for the AMG Pack and you don`t have that double round fog lights. As well, A8 you can let the standard headlights and you don`t have that shape. Anyway, I found really gorgeous the A8s optional LEDs.

They discontinued the double fogs for the U.S E's by 2011 MY's.

Yeah, they went over really badly.

I'll put up one that I always complain about. Actually, make that two: Obsessively non-functional designs, with terrible sight-lines, making for dangerous vehicles practically, which in turn make it so you have to be under 6' tall to properly fit inside. Also, nonsensical, random side surfacing on otherwise great designs. Not to mention, reverse wedge lines on cars that can't decide as to whether they're wedge shaped or anti-wedge shaped.... and finally, door handles that don't even follow the lines (making the surfacing all the more nonsensical):

I hate that the CLS is the perfect example for your description. I love that car. Best design in 2010 for me.

Even with what I see as shortcomings and even-major flaws, the overall CLS is still mostly a beauty to me as well, I certainly don't dislike the CLS at all, I just really dislike a few elements of it. They make it much less than what it could have been: Something I'd insanely want, into something that I simply have lots of love and some hate for.

The F01 7er looks fine by me. Big exec sedans ought to have big grilles.

Also, I'm no fan of CLS' wayward lines, and from the front and the front 3/4 views, it looks fussy over-done. But the thing that CLS has going for itself is its fantastic proportions. You can really tell by the pic K-A posted everything is right sized.

Oh my, that white CLS. It looks utterly superb! Love what they've done there.
