It's also comes with a green dial on an aligator strap, I prefer the green but I prefer a bracelet. Why they don't do the green on a bracelet is beyond me.
They have one in green and on a bracelet (SBGE257), but this one comes with spring drive and a different bezel. Personally I'm not so fond of the power reserve indicator on the dial.

It's a smaller watch, 40mm against 44 for the SBGJ237/9

That's right, SBGE is a bit smaller, but still has presence on the wrist.
What do you think of the new Breitling Superocean? Seems like a fair offer to me. This one is the 42 mm, but it also comes in 46 mm.

it does look good, I’ve only seen it on hodinkee, I’d like to take a look, I like big divers watches. 38 hour power isn’t too flash and it has an ETA movement, which makes it difficult to justify the price.

As far as I’m informed it’s a Sellita movement which received a COSC (chronometer) certification. I really don’t mind it’s not an in-house caliber. Sellita (and ETA) COSC certified calibers show tremendously good timekeeping, are sturdy and every half decent watchmaker can service them. Those are pro‘s in my book.
Price is indeed in Omega SMP 300 territory, but if you’ve got a chance to handle them live, Rob, you’ll notice they are really well made. Without a doubt on Omega level imo.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating Breitling. I just want to say I was surprised by it’s quality and how it works on your wrist. It’s way better than before.

particularly this Navitimer Cosmonaute commemorating Scott Carpenter's orbiting the Earth in 1962.
Also the Glashutte Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date just looks so good.

Glashütte Original has some very nice offerings. The Seventies line @hoffmeister_fan mentioned is one of them. They also offer a perpetual calender for a, relatively speaking, decent price.

My affection for the Speedy is well-known on these pages, so much so that it's the watch I most want to get. But I dig all those chronos.I love the B01 in Mint Green.
When I think of chronographs there's only three choices for me, the Navitimer, Speedmaster Professional and the Chronomaster.
I remember seeing a Navitimer in a salmon or rose-gold sunburst dial and thought it was quite the looker, but I do like the mint as well.
My dealer called me today, apparently the white dial Tudor Chronograph, which I have originally ordered last year has just arrived.
I wasn't expecting to receive this call but I thought why not, I will pick up the watch on the weekend, and decide if I should be keeping both.
The white panda dial version has received almost universal praise , so I am quite keen to finally see the watch in person.

I also think they are a lot better finished than any Rolex or Breitling, you have to move well up the price bracket into AP, Patek and similar territory to get a Swiss watch with the same attention to detail as a GS case. The watch above is titanium, it's easily the best finished titanium case I've eve come across, and finally with this model they have a proper milled titanium clasp on the bracelet, unlike most of GS's which use stamped steel.
