Z Series The Next Generation BMW Z4 - Coming in 2018?

Post number 670 has been selected as best answered.

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.

BMW Z5 speculative render shows great potential

OmniAuto.it has decided to render a potential look for the upcoming BMW Z5.

Recent spy photos have shown BMW is hard at work preparing a direct replacement for the Z4 and is set to make the switch from a metal roof to a soft top. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but nowadays the trend is to go for a fabric roof as it saves a considerable amount of weight and also doesn’t take up a lot of storage space.

Based on latest spy content, the good folks over at OmniAuto.it are now proposing a potential look for what is believed to be the “Z5.” The prototypes spotted so far were quite early in the testing phase taking into account the cars lacked many of the production bits and pieces. As a consequence, we don’t know for sure whether the attached speculative render will resemble the real deal salted to come out either by the end of 2017 or early 2018.

Bigger than the Z4, the first-ever Z5 will have a long hood, sweptback headlights, wide kidney grille, along with a short rear overhang, and a low driving position. There’s also going to be a Toyota version which will adopt a different design and will act as a spiritual successor of the Supra, but it’s unclear at this point if it will use the same iconic moniker.

The BMW Z5 is expected to spawn a coupe version if we were to rely on a report issued by Motor.es. That one will allegedly come out approximately one year after the roadster and both will use BMW engines, except for a hybrid derivative which is believed to use Toyota’s hardware. As standard, the Z5s will have a rear-wheel drive layout, with the option of xDrive available at an additional cost.

A selection of turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines will be on offer, and there’s also a juicy rumor about an M Performance variant using a hybridized four-cylinder with water injection to offer close to 600 horsepower.

It remains to be seen how many of these rumors will turn out to be true, but with BMW and Toyota joining forces for a sports car, there are enough reasons to believe it will be something very interesting.

That render is a joke. The info is nice though, I think this car will be quite special in the end.

Oh gawd no!
The headlights are similar but everything else is entirely off and when I say off about 1000 degrees South.
Its not like an M4 in the way of Aerodynamic packet that is being lazy.
It has its own unique face along with optional M Sport. And then they will get to the full blown M later.
Its engines will be unique four cylinders and six cylinders. Unique by means of different outputs and higher performance.
The real centre piece is its construction especially when compared to rivals or sports cars from the segment above.
They are now testing alongside the Boxster but I am sure they will eventually compare against the 718.
Its going to receive a Coupe also which of course will be much stiffer and from a visual perspective more sportier.

So far I am not convinced in the looks of the car, it looks so plain compared to the Z4. The current Z4 is a very good looking roadster and I think BMW can use some of this cars design details and modernize it for the new version.

There's very little we can see yet, other than the general proportions. Hold your horses.
This is what the current Z4 looked like while testing. Doesn't really look like anything either:

And this one has much less cladding already.

Talk about a blast from the past. This must be 2007?
The differences here is that you can see that Z4 is more rounded than Z5. Besides a few years ago BMW did some sort of announcement that Vision ConnectedDrive and 328 Hommage preview ideas for the next generation Z models.
There is one factor that connects all three models.

And what factor is that?? :)

Things are not what they seem Episode 123456789....

Look at the Grille through the disguise to see how well the engineers have disguised the car.
You can see the upper edges showing a much lower nose in which a fake plastic camouflage nose has been applied.

My friends see very good, hahahaha, and this shows that the engineers haven't disguised very good the prototype...

No I disagree, they have done an amazing job at making a bar of soap out of it (sans the amazing proportions). Very little to be seen, and that little sneak peek only makes things better.
This car will look fantastic, no doubt.
