Z Series The Next Generation BMW Z4 - Coming in 2018?

Post number 670 has been selected as best answered.

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.

Autobild is reporting that the Toyota sports car alongside the Z5 will really be called the Supra. Toyota registered the name "Supra" a couple of months ago with the European Office and Tetsuya Tada said he would like to use the name for the upcoming sports car. So great news! This could really be a hit, both for BMW and Toyota. We will just have to wait until 2018.

When is the Z4 replacement supposed to be launched? The Z4 has been on the market for more than 6 years so its replacement should be imminent working on the usual 7 years model replacement.

This is not the case for the Z4. It's taking a lot longer because of the joint with Toyota. It doesn't matter much, the market is dead right now. So if they make a good car they might be able to revive it somehow, and have a cutting edge product while sharing production costs.

I really would love BMW to bring a sports coupe out that will give the Porsche Cayman some nightmares as well as the Audi TT. Lighter weight and a great chassis will make it a much better driving machine than the Z4.

Besides the current one still lokks gogeous.

This might be the one you were thinking of

Anyhow, I really don't think that's a BMW, I'm not really seeing any similarities in this and the Z4/5 we've seen, it also certainly bares some similarities to the FT-1, and those aren't GTS wheels, the spacing of the spokes where they meet the rim is too great..

I think BMW might well be helping with the development of the Supra in conjunction with the next Z car.

The interior is definitely BMW. I know that doesn't mean it still can't be a Toyota as they are collaborating, but I would take a guess that this is a BMW.

Hmm, I hope it's a BMW, looks like it could be a properly fun little sports car, but I'm really not convinced at this stage.

I see quite a bit of the FT1 concept car in the rear, but it also reminds me of the first gen Z4 hard-top. Hmmm...:eusa_thin

I would say it's the Toyota with a BMW interior. There's no way BMW is going back to the sloping front we're seeing on this test car. It should be opposite of what it is really, to create that shark nose effect modern Bimmers are trying to bring forward.

But the proportions are typically BMW, the interior is clearly from BMW and the profile overall looks like a next gen Z4 coupe.

Difficult. It's imo either the Z5 or Supra. I think Supra.

The front overhang of that coupe looks a lot smaller than the roadsters

Different lens and distance could have that effect, the more telling thing for me is the height of the nose in comparison to the top of the wheel arch. If the Coupe is a BMW they're going much further with the camo this time, or it's getting a totally different front end to the Roadster.

This is the Toyota Supra. The interior if you look closer is the current Z4 with that L shape surrounding the central vents.
Also the nose if more familiar with a Toyota compared to the Z5 prototype. BMW are responsible for chassis development, and then Toyota engineers will do their fine tuning as will BMW.

IMO the mule has strong similarities with the FT1 Concept. Check the nose, roof line and rear. It's a Toyota.

If that's the real deal then meh, taking the 1er/3er old parts and plugging them in an older present z4 themed interior is not what i expected.
