^Rumor was that they tried the V10TT from previous RS6 and the test car burned down at Nurburgring during testing. This was before the R8 V10 was revealed and they were probably considering the TT V10 at that point. But it is just a matter of adding enough radiators and cooling. After all the Veyron uses a W16 with 4 turbos (and yes, I know it is a $million car and can't be compared to R8).

Either way I hope they stick with the NA engines.

Could use either a 4.0-liter V8 or 5.0-liter V10 engine
Audi introduced the R8 TDI Le Mans concept at the 2008 North American International Auto Show and a new report is indicating the company will finally offer a production model with a diesel engine.

According to Automobile Magazine, Audi will launch an R8 TDI in 2017. Little is known about the model but it will reportedly use either a 4.0-liter V8 TDI engine or a 5.0-liter V10 TDI engine that is being developed for Bentley. There's no word on specifications but the R8 TDI Le Mans concept had a V12 TDI engine with 500 PS (367 kW) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque.

In related news, the magazine is reporting the model will be offered with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that develops 460 bhp (343 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. They also say we can expect a 5.2-liter V10 with 540 hp (402 kW) and 398 lb-ft (539 Nm) of torque. If that's not powerful enough, the R8 V10 Plus is expected to return to the lineup with 600 bhp (447 kW) and 413 lb-ft (559 Nm) of torque.

Hope Audi doesn't get turbos on that... NA with some torque boost will do just fine... I guess what the r8 misses is torque... Of course, more horsepower out of the v10 will be nice too!

Yes.. but I think that without turbo or supercharger they won't be albe to boost torque any higher.
In fact I wouldn't mind if they make the GT (or something like that) top version in the future with a charged 630-640hp and ~700-750nm 5.2 V10 engine.
Even with a small turbo- or supercharger it can still be a quite high reving engine.

I can only imagine, if the next gen R8 will get for example the e-turbos in future. The RS5 TDI-e (prototype) is now a monster (0-62 mph 4 s, 1/4 mile 12.6 s etc), what much lighter the R8 can do then. Electric turbos/turbos are future. I want turbos as well to R8.

That would be great.
I think we can expect a 560-570HP NA V10 this time around.
Pretty much a more high-tech, faster Gallardo.
150K EUR is what I'm hoping for. Too much understeer is what I'm afraid of tho...

Are you going to buy the new R8 then? :)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
