SLR McLaren (C199) The new SLR 722 GTR

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren C199 is a grand tourer by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren. Body styles: C199 coupé, R199 roadster, and Z199 speedster. The "SLR" "Sport Leicht Rennsport" (Sport Light Racing), is a homage to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR (W196S). Production: 2003–2010 (2,157 produced). Model years: 2004–2010.
I hardly doubt that, or they weren't pushing it. Supposedly the SL BLack did that in 7:36 while the new Nissan GT-R did that in 7:38. I hardly doubt the GT-R version of the SLR would do it in 7:38. But if 7:38 is true, then the SLR-GTR is dissapointing at best.:t-cheers:

The time probably shouldn't really be considered, I doubt they will ever push the car on a track like the N-ring it would be thrashed to hell sitting as low as it is. Also keep in mind that Klaus took the normal "paltry" :D SLR around the Ring in 7.40, so I'm sure the driver in the GTR was more or less cruising around.

Yeah, I know. That's why I put that "I highly doubt" part in my post. It would be a sad day when the ultimate SLR does barely better than it's less extreme sister.

It is a race car on slicks - should be closer to 7 mins if not faster, not 7:30. The M3 GTR, which is way less powerful was around 7:12.

i think the article said the car had transmission problems so the driver took it easy..also is the car called the slr gtr or slr gt??

A puristic super- sportscar for the racetrack
Last week we brought you a first glimpse of the SLR 722 GT Edition from the Nurburgring in Germany. Today we can bring you the officially released information of this racetrack exclusive supercar, namely that there will be a maximum of 21 units in total, it has 680 hp (500 kW) with a torque of 830 Nm, weighs 1390 kg, has a topspeed of 315 km/h and should hit 100 km/h from standstill in 3.3 seconds.
RML Group, British motor racing specialists, have redesigned over 400 components, the supercharged AMG 5.5 liter V8 engine has been uprated to 680 hp but most energy was spent on the suspension, braking system, aerodynamics, interior and exhaust system. On the exterior you will find a new front apron with front splitter, wide wings, side ksirts, large rear diffuser and fixed huge rear spoiler. A racing air filter and new exhaust system ensure its responsiveness while enhancing the engine sound.
The newly developed suspension system consists of a new wheel allocation system at both the front and rear which provides improved kinetics and lateral dynamics. A modified stabiliser at the front axle reduces roll when cornering while the shock absorbers can be set-up for different racetracks. A five-speed automatic transmission operated with paddle shifters puts the power to the tarmac while the rest of the interior is made up of a roll-cage, bucket seats with 6-point harness and race instrument panel.
Press Release

Following repeated requests by motor racing enthusiasts among the SLR. CLUB members, the British motor racing specialists RML Group (Ray Mallock Ltd) have developed the new SLR 722 GT. This puristic super-sportscar is designed exclusively for the racetrack, has no approval for on-road use and will take part in the SLR. CLUB Trophy, a competition series forming part of the SLR. CLUB racetrack programme in Europe.
Compared to the series-production version, the SLR 722 GT has been uniquely and comprehensively re-engineered by RML, especially with respect to the suspension, braking system, aerodynamics, interior and exhaust system. More than 400 components were redesigned. The key data of this edition limited to 21 two-seaters kerb weight 1390 kilograms, maximum output 500 kW/680 ps at 1.75 bar boost, and maximum torque of 830 Newton metres to guarantee maximum racetrack performance.
The SLR 722 GT already makes a powerful impression at standstill: new body components such as the front apron with front splitter, wide wings, prominent side skirts, the large rear diffuser and the fixed rear spoiler are obvious indicators of outstanding racetrack performance and extensive aerodynamic development work.
The likewise redesigned bonnet conceals a supercharged AMG 5.5-litre V8-engine uprated by RML to develop a peak output of 500 kW/680 ps and a maximum torque of 830 Newton metres. A racing air filter and a new exhaust system ensure outstanding responsiveness and an even more striking engine sound. Dispensing with numerous comfort features means that the SLR 722 GT tips the scales at a kerb weight of just 1390 kilograms. The result is a favourable power-to-weight ratio of 2.0 kg/ps and an acceleration time of 3.3 seconds from standstill to 100 km/h. The maximum speed is 315 km/h.
Modified suspension with central wheel locks

Fast lap times are guaranteed by the newly developed suspension: a new wheel location system at both front and rear provides improved kinematics and lateral dynamics. A modified stabiliser at the front axle reduces roll when cornering, while an adjustable wheel camber combined with shock absorbers with variable compression and rebound characteristics allow the suspension to be set up for different racetracks. 18-inch light- alloy wheels with central locks allow fast tyre-changes during a race which is also assisted by the pneumatic jacking system.
Power is transferred by a five-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel shift paddles, which has been adapted to racing conditions. A mechanical locking differential with a locking effect of 70 percent under acceleration and 80 percent on the overrun ensures traction without loss of power. Highly efficient, fade- resistant braking is provided by the new racing brakes complying with FIA GT regulations, which feature a modified cooling airflow and adjustable balance. The interior of the SLR 722 GT is characterised by the functional atmosphere of a thoroughbred racing car. Eye-catching details include a rollover cage, a redesigned instrument panel with a racing display, a racing steering wheel and bucket seats with six-point seat belts.
Developed by motor racing specialists

Development, production and sales of the SLR 722 GT are in the hands of the renowned British motorsport and automotive specialists RML Group. A maximum of 21 vehicles will be produced. Servicing and participation in racing events is also under the aegis of RML in collaboration with the SLR.SAFETY & SPEED ACADEMY.
The owners of cars already ordered are all members of the SLR. CLUB a highly exclusive community which organises events relating to the SLR and is chaired by Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler AG and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Cars. The SLR.SAFETY & SPEED ACADEMY forming part of the SLR. CLUB offers special driver training courses, and enables customers to acquire a national Category A racing licence.
Prominent, highly-skilled instructors for the SLR. CLUB include David Coulthard, Klaus Ludwig, Jochen Mass, Chris Goodwin and Christina Surer. The central focus of SLR. CLUB events is on automotive passion, professionalism and perfection.

Now i wonder if this will stop the crap talk about AMG not having enough Bhp per litre..

But it's supercharged, not NA. MWAHAHHHAHHAHHAHHHAHAHH!!!!! :icon_twis:icon_twis:icon_twis

:D j/k

^HHAHA i knew it..
but they have proved NA allready.. now high Hp/litre
i guess they can do any style they want..
but chose big stroke engines with alot of torque cause they want to..
and not cause they are forced to:D

680 Hp form a supercharged 5.5L race car engine with no cats and no emission restrictions is nothing to write home about. Heck Ferrari get 850HP from a 6L (or is it 6.5L) NA engine in the Fxx and BMW got 680Hp from a 6L NA engine in the McLaren GTR back in the 90s in street trim.

Not that MB is not capable of doing what others do/did, but this engine in this trim s not an example of that.

Now this is what should have been sold the general public in the first place....lol! Sales would have hit 3500 years ago!!!

SLR-GTR?

Another Look At The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition GT

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition GT side exterior view

As you may remember, earlier this month we brought word of a limited edition Mercedes SLR McLaren 722 Edition boasting a number of track-oriented, Gullwing-esque upgrades; but at the time, details were relatively scarce. Yesterday, more about the exclusive model was revealed, starting with the fact that it isn't a factory-direct model; instead, it's a tuned version of the SLR 722 Edition produced by the England-based RML Group.

Designed exclusively for the race track, the SLR 722 GT as it's being called has no approval for on-road use, and was developed following numerous requests from SLR CLUB members for the RML Group to produce a puristic super-sportscar. Over 400 components of the standard SLR 722 Edition were accordingly re-worked, resulting in a final product boasting a curb weight of 1390 kilograms, a maximum output 500 kW/680 ps at 1.75 bar boost, and maximum torque of 830 Newton metres. As a result, the SLR 722 GT is capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in a mere 3.3 seconds, while speed tops out at just over 195 mph.

But power alone isn't enough to grant the SLR 722 GT the respect it deserves; equally impressive is the model's race-oriented styling. Hints of the SLR's Gullwing heritage abound, with modifications including a new front apron with front splitter, widened wings, prominent side skirts, a large rear diffuser, and the not-quite-so-attractive fixed rear spoiler. Other modifications include a modified suspension system, 18" light alloy wheels with central locking, a roll cage, and a host of interior enhancements, all of which give testament to the fact this isn't your ordinary SLR 722 Edition.

If you're interested, as we mentioned previously, only 21 models of the RML Group's SLR 722 Edition GT will be produced, with pricing (according to our initial article) set at a tidy EUR 775,000. Not cheap, but no doubt worth every penny.

To learn more, keep reading for a number of photos showcasing the SLR 722 GT, followed by the complete press release detailing the model.
