Imo, this is one of the most interesting cars Audi have made.
I wish they made a Coupé on the A4 B5 body.

The S2 Coupé is one of my favorite Audis and I will defenitely buy one some day.

What BMW did for the premium compact sedans, Audi did for the premium hot hatchs, of which this would be the grandfather perhaps, the dad of the A3, although a desirable and exceptional car, I don't know if Legendary is the word ... .

The Audi 80-based coupes and cabriolets are as solid as a rock. Actually, this applies to all B3/B4 Audi automobiles. Great cars. I owned both a B3 and B4 back in the late 1980s'/early 1990s' and both were absolutely bullet-proof. They followed a pair of E30 BMWs'-which I also loved.

I remember when this car was introduced in 1991 it was given some negative reviews from journalists as they mentioned that it was not a true drivers car like its highly established and legendary Quattro predecessor, with loads of understeer in heavy cornering and vague steering. It was however very quick at the time, with a 0-100 time of approx. 6sec.

I can't see the connection with the A3.
It is in my eyes to a certain extent the same formula that BMW later used with the 3 seies compact prior to launching the 1 series, a kind of exploration refining the entry to that segment, this derived from Audi 80 that would be the A4 of its time and shortly afterwards in 1996 the 3 door A3 was launched.

I only saw an S2 at that time it was for sale and it was red like the one in the photo, very handsome car, I was the age of the right buyer and I wanted it as much as the 91 Civic Si hatch, then I saw the first A3 that I showed that Audi was here to stay, with the perfect timing to attract young people with a premium car format never seen before

I think it was a mistake when comparing it with the best Audi in history, just as today they continue with the same mistake when comparing too much entry level performance cars with their iconic predecessors, everything has a price.

In addition, the fact of being able to access a car with a pedigree and a prohibitive brand up to that moment for a young man weighed more than anything, in the sense that a young man who had just accessed a powerful car and that surely would have seemed like drive a Ferrari

Prior Design Wants To Rewrite History With Audi RS2 Coupe Widebody Kit

Audi’s first-ever RS-badged car, the RS2 Avant, was only made as a wagon and that’s a real shame since the Audi 80 platform on which it was based also offered the Coupe.

There’s no doubt that an RS2 Coupe would have made a fantastic successor to the legendary Audi Quattro road car. It probably would have been an even better car than the RS2 Avant given the Coupe’s slightly shorter wheelbase and lower weight.

But enough of “coulda, woulda, shoulda”; the reason we’re bringing this up is because Prior Design has announced a limited-run widebody aero kit for the Audi Coupe with RS2 optics. While these are merely renderings, it is more than obvious that the German tuner has a winner on its hands.

Just look at the fantastic transformation this body kit will make.
The fruit of a collaboration between Prior Design, JP Performance and Dr. Crazy, the widebody package will be released later this year to mark to coincide with the Audi Sport Quattro rally car’s 40th birthday. The muscular body kit is inspired by current RS models and has been embellished with various elements that are reminiscent of the original Audi Quattro.

The package features wide bodywork extensions at the front and back, new rocker panels with blade attachments, a custom hood with Quattro-inspired air intakes over the radiator grill, and more aggressive bumpers. The one at the front sports a spoiler, a more prominent spoiler lip, and side cup wings, while the one at the rear gets a new rear skirt complete with a striking diffuser insert including a thick tailpipe on each side.

Feel free to imagine what you would put under the hood, though the Audi S2 Coupe’s 2.2-liter 20V turbocharged five-cylinder engine boosted to match the RS2 Avant‘s 311 HP (232 kW / 315 PS) appears the perfect choice – unless you can source an actual RS2 engine, that is.

Matching the Audi Quattro’s anniversary, Prior Design will only build 40 widebody aero kits for the Audi 80-based Coupe. The start of sales will be announced before the end of this month.

This looks awesome, I wish the original model launched in the early 90s looked like this. Would have been a more fitting replacement for the 80s Quattro.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
